The Naval Wing of the Royal Flying Corps was authorised 11th July 1912 and soon became known as the Royal Naval Air Service, this title was officially recognised in July 1914. The RNAS merged with the Royal Flying Corps to form the Royal Air Force on 1st April 1918. |

| 1007 | Presentation flechettes including an anti Zeppelin example.A rare box set of British aerial Darts used during the Great War. The three darts are contained in their original leather and velvet lined case. The lid with gilt tooled text Souvenirs of the War Aeroplane Darts. The darts comprise the standard anti personal pencil style. The Bristol pattern, weighted end with four tail fin. Also a rare anti airship incendiary pattern. Steel weighted point, with brass hollow tube tail. This would have been filled with a incendiary charge, with an aim of igniting the pieced gas bags. The overall condition is near good, little wear to the case. Produced by the Henry Levin Webb & Co. It is believed that the anti Zeppelin dart is of the pattern developed by Commander Rankin of the Royal Navy in 1916. They would have been loaded into a metal box and dispersed when directly over a Zeppelin. |

Comprising: Pilots Log Book, this commencing on the 20th January 1943, with training in the US. and proceeding to Operational flying with 62 Squadron on the 13th September 1944, flying Dakota C47 transport aircraft dropping Paratroops and supplies. The last entry is dated April 1946.... Officers service dress uniform. This of regulation pattern, to the left breast, Pilots Wings and medal ribands of the 1939/45 Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal and War Medal. To the cuff rank lace indicating Flying Officer. Complete with overalls (Tailored in India).... Officers pay book, ID card etc.... Medal group. 1939/45 Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal and War Medal. Medals loose. Overall GC. Flying Officer Derek Holdroyd, flew operationally with 62 Squadron. During this period the squadron was heavily engaged in supply drops to forward airfields and advancing units. the Squadron records show that at one stage the Squadron was completing nearly 1,000 sorties a month. The log book also gives reference to Paratroop dropping. Following flying with 62 Squadron he was transferred to 353 Squadron in December 1945, before being posted back UK and was demobbed 3rd September 1946. |

The propellor is of the early style construction with dowels. The length of the blade is 39 inches with width of the blade at the widest point present is seven inches. The vendor believes that this propellor is from the German airship SL11 brought down by Lieutenant Leefe Robinson VC at Cuffley on the 3rd September 1916. This attribution is not confirmed. | 1030 | RAF. 617 Dambuster Squadron Log Book, Flying Jacket etc. A rare grouping of items appertaining to the Flying career of Squadron Leader R.T. Duck, Bomb Aimer and Navigator, who fly operationally with 617 Squadron on the Tallboy raids of 1944 and later flew as part of the Operation Grapple Britains first Hydrogen Bomb Test, which took place on Christmas Island. Comprising: Log Book, recording Operational and Training flights from August 1942 to June 1957...... Observers padded brevet.... Two silk Aircrew Escape Maps.... Irvin flying jacket. A good example of the electrical heated pattern. Retaining leads and jack plugs. The reverse with faint painted name Duck and a number. The leather remains supple and the fur sound, however the master zip is absent.... Early Post WWII grey flying suit, with elasticated collar. The breast pocket with a 617 Squadron Badge (age wear)... Regulation RAF Officers Mess Uniform,The Jacket, with Squadron Leader rank lace and with an Army Air Corps style O brevet to the collar. Complete with waistcoat and trousers.... Service dress cap, complete with Kings crown bullion cap badge. Some service and age wear... Officers side cap, plus miscellaneous items, including ephemera and photographs. Overall GC. (quantity) The first entry in the Log Book is for the 22nd August 1942, commencing training as a Bomb Aimer, he was posted for operational flying to 619 Squadron operating Lancaster Bombers and flew his first op to Mannheim on the 23rd September 1943. The log records a further 16 operations with this unit, with five in a row to Berlin. After a short break, it appears that the crew were transferred to 617 Squadron in March 1944, flying their first special duty trip on the 24th April 1944 to Lyons, during the next months Duck flew on a number of sorties with a very special one flown on the 6th June 1944, in support of the D-Day landings, with a Tallboy raid following on the 8th June at the Saumure Tunnel. On the 14th June, Ducks crew were briefed for a Tallboy raid to the Submarine Pens at LeHavre, this raid under the command of Les Munro The log book contains the entry A/C damaged by Flak, wounded Emergency landing at W.Malling. Ducks aircraft was hit by flak on three occasions and received damage to the petrol tanks, and had one bomb door blown off. Duck was wounded and it was later counted 27 pieces of shrapnel was removed from his leg. Despite this the Captain pushed onto the target and the bomb was dropped. Ducks luck appears to have left him for a time as his Log Book records his next flight in July as a passenger ing to his station of Woodhall Spa the log Crashed on landing aircraft burnt out ing to flying with 617 Squadron in December 1944, he appears to have flown the rest of the war on training flights, often in the role of Navigator. With the war over and with eight 617 Squadron operations under his belt, he remained with the RAF and the Squadron, been posted with the unit to the India. Posted from the Squadron he joined the Staff of 1 Group HQ, before ing to flying duties as a Navigator. flying mainly in Mosquito aircraft. of 11 Squadron. In 1957 he was posted to the Operation Grapple Task Force. This was the operation to Christmas Island to test Britains first Hydrogen Bomb. Most of this period was spent flying as Navigator on Whirlwind Helicopters with a number flights to the island before and following the Bomb Drop. The last RAF flying entry was for the 1 June 1957, with further records of commercial flight. |

| 1032 | RAF 254 (Beaufighter) Casualty Navigators Log Book. A good example compiled by Flight Sergeant Harold James Knight, who failed to from Operations on the 5th February, 1943. The log is accompanied by an original photograph of Knight as an Aircrew Cadet and a photocopy of a picture of Knight wearing Observers brevet. GC Flight Sergeant H.J. Knight, commenced aircrew training on the 19th November 1940 and became operational with 254 Squadron on the 10th December 1941. At that time the Squadron was flying Bristol Blenheims primary in the Convoy Escort role and his first war flight was on the 18th February 1942 In June the Squadron began to convert to Bristol Beaufighters and Knights first flight in the type was in August. The role of the Squadron now changed to the more dangerous Torpedo attack role. After a long period of training, the Squadron once again became operational in February 1943 and the log records on the 5th of that month. Dutch Recco failed to . It is believed that on this sortie, the target was 15 enemy ships. Only one aircraft failed to . Casualties for the Squadron in this role were high, with an average of one to two crews lost a month. Flight Sergeant Knight is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial for those airman with no known grave. |

Three Pilots Log Books and a extremely good ATA snap shot photograph album, appertaining to the flying career of Flight Captain William Turle, who was one of 30 Civilian Pilots selected to fly unarmed Avro Ansons with supplies for the Army following Operation Market Garden. Comprising: three log books, the first a civilian type covers the period July 1936 to Nov 1941. This includes ATA training. The second log is an official RAF type and covers the period December 1941 to January 1944. The third log, again an official type covers the period February 1944 to September 1945 when his ATA career concluded. The log contains further civil flying entries. The logs represent over 1,800 hours of flying and over 60 different types of aircraft.... Accompanied by a large snap shot photograph album entitled Types I have Met and Types I have flown contains images of fellow ATA members approximately 35 portraits, wearing uniform and named. Other images include group shots, parties and some in-flight snaps. A selection of official aircraft photographs are contained. In this album can also be found the official named ATA certificate of service..... Other items include flying license.... Flying Manuals . Overall GC. Flight Captain William Turle, first flying entry appears for a DH60 flight on the 22nd July 1936. Volunteering for the ATA in 1940. Following the Allied landings at Arnhem in 1944, Captain Turle was one of 30 Pilots selected and volunteered for Operation flying of supplies to Holland and Belgium. They flew unarmed twin engined Avro Ansons, which were stripped down, without Navigators or wireless. These aircraft were crammed with supplies and on the flights, were filled with wounded soldiers, or shot down aircrew who had evaded capture. The log book records from the 16th September to the 25th Flights to France & Brussels. Concluding his Ferrying career, he was discharged in September 1945. The log begins 11th October 1945 and includes retraining on DH82a and onto Hotspur Gliders, the last entry being May 16th 1946. .. A rare attributed A2 jacket worn by Sergeant Edmund Niec, a crewman with B17 Flying Fortress Stinky, The leather jacket is of the standard pattern, with elasticated waist and cuffs and tailored with two waist pockets. To the left breast a leather name tag Edmund Niec, below this is painted entwined initials EN and a bomb tally of 35 missions. The back is decorated with a devil / demon, wearing a flying suit holding a five prong fork. Bearing the title Stinky. Cotton lining and large stencilled E.L. Niec 33436667. The jacket is a good size and the leather remains supple. Art work to the back has faded and the jacket has a hole to the lower left pocket and one sleeve. GC. ... Accompanied by a service dress tunic bearing Staff Sergeants chevrons, 8th Air Force shoulder patch and Armature specialist badge to the cuff. The left breast with Aircrew Members wings (clutch pin fitting) medal ribands of: Distinguished Flying Cross, Airmans Medal (3 clusters), American Campaign Medal and European campaign Medal (2 stars). It is confirmed that Sgt Niec served with 750 Squadron of the 457th Bomb Group stationed at Glatton near Peterborough. | 1052 | An interesting set of five RAF pilots log books Compiled by Flight Sergeant William Henry Black, who flew operationally with 39 Squadron during the Cyprus crises of 1957. The set of log books cover the period 2nd January 1943 to January 1962, recording over 3,700 air hours on various types of aircraft, including Meteor 7 jet aircraft. Overall GC. Flight Sergeant William Henry Black commenced flying training in Canada January 1943. Qualifying as a Pilot, he ed to the UK and it appears that he spent most of his flying career as an Instructor. Qualified to fly and instruct on the Meteor Jet, he was posted to 39 Squadron on the 1st July 1957 based at Nicosia, this being during the unrest in Cyprus, he flew operationally on Recce patrols and Battle Flights. In March 1957 the Squadron transferred to Malta to await conversion to Cambria Bombers, for Photo Reconnaissance work and Black was once again posted and finished his career attached to 3 Squadron. |

The log book records that in September through to October flying from Ramleh CW Operational Patrol on a number of occasions. ing to the UK in 1932, be once again began flying with number 13 Army Co-operation Squadron. His last entry is for November 1935 flying in a Audax. At the outbreak of WWII he was serving at Malta and received a Commission in April 1940. By 1944 he was serving at RAF Bentley Priory with the rank of Wing Commander. Remaining with the RAF at the end of the war, it appears that he took a drop in rank and was again holding the rank of Wing Commander in 1954 a rank he maintained until his retirement in 1963. | 1058 | RAF 1941 Aircrew ephemera A small selection of ephemera appertaining to a Bristol Beaufort crew described by the national press as Beaufort Ace Crew. Comprising: Seven official press photographs of various members of the crew, all wearing flying clothing, including the 1932 pattern Mae West.... Aircraft camera photograph dated 16th July 1941 showing the bow of a German merchant ship with Swastika ID painted to the deck... Two newspaper cuttings.... copy of The Sphere dated October 1941 containing a full page article on the Crew, using the press photographs and shot of the bow of the ship. Overall GC. The ephemera is believed to have belonged to the family of Air Gunner Sergeant R. Marshal of 217 Squadron. The crew had been followed for a moth of operational flying in the Battle for the Atlantic. During this mouth they participated in sixteen operations, including an attack on the Scharnhorst. They also at one stage engaged a HE115 seaplane. The crews luck ran out and they failed to from operations on the 21st August 1941. |

The uniform is of the regulation pattern with Flight Lieutenant rank lace to the cuffs and brass A to the collar. To the left breast a fine quality pair of padded pilots wings and medal ribands of the DFM, 1939/45 Star, Atlantic Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Air Efficiency Medal. Tailors label of Burberrys and ink name with a date for May 1942. Complete with overalls..... Accompanied by a service dress peaked cap complete with bullion cap badge. Minor stitching faults to the leather sweatband. A good classic WWII shape GC. The uniform is also accompanied by a wartime photographic ID card and a second post war ID Card. (5 items) The recommendation for the Immediate DFM is dated 24th April 1942. Flight Sergeant Pope was Captain of Whitley F/502 engaged on an anti submarine sweep in the Bay of Biscay during the night of 1st/2nd April 1942. At 23.43 hours a fully surfaced U-boat was sighted at a range of only 700 yards. Flight sergeant Pope at once attacked with depth charges which were released in a stick from a low altitude and which straddled the U-boat. The attack was carried out so promptly that the U-boat did not have time to dive completely and it is thought that a least one depth charge exploded in contact with the upper deck. The speed and accuracy with this night attack was carried out reflects the greatest credit on Flight Sergeant Pope who has already flown 380 hours on operations and has always shown the greatest keenness and devotion to duty This action took place whilst flying with 502 Squadron |

| 1065 | RAF aircrew casualty log book. Compiled by Sgt H.Whiteley who was killed in action on Bomber Commands last major raid of WWII on 2nd February 1945. The flying log book covers a period November 1943 to 2nd February 1945. He served as a Wireless Operator with 50 Squadron flying Lancasters. GC (4 items) Sergeant Harry Whiteley, commenced flying with No..4 Radio School and proceeded to 16 HCU on Sterling, bombers before his operational posting to 50 Squadron flying Lancaster Bombers. His first op was to Politz on the 21st December 1944, this flight took 10 hours and 40 minutes. He flew a further 6 operations and was lost on his seventh trip to Karlsruhe on the 2nd February 1945. This was to prove to be not only Bomber Commands last Major attack of WWII, but a disaster, with heavy cloud cover, the bombers were unable to get through to the target and Karlsruhe reported no casualties, with only a few bombs falling, while Bomber Command would lose 14 Lancasters from of a force of 250. |

Complete with anodised buttons. The interior with original tailors label with ink name H. White 1971. Accompanied by overalls VGC (2 items) Air Commodore Harry Edward White was born in 1923 and on enlistment lied about his age joining in 1940. After pilot training he was posted to initially to 534 Squadron and then transvered to 141 Squadron operating Beaufighters. His roll was to engage enemy Night Fighters attacking Bomber Command aircraft over Occupied Europe. His first kill was made at Aachen on the 3/4 July 1943. By the end of the war he and his observer were credited with 12 aircraft destroyed and four damaged. Remaining in the RAF In the post war years he held various posting including CO of 46 Squadron and his last posting was with RAF Germany. He retired with the rank of Air Commodore in 1977 and passed away in March 1990 |

| 1092 | 1917 German Imperial Air Service Pilots Log Book. A rare example of the official Pilots log book, printed in Berlin 1916. Compiled by Karl Poggeusel, who qualified as Fokker DIII Pilot. To the front of the log is a photograph of Poggeusel wearing the Iron Cross 1st Class and Pilots Badge. The log records flights at the Hamburg Flying School. GC |

| 1093 | Aviation Pioneers Attributed RAF Cap. This cap is attributed to the Aviation Pioneer Cecil L. Pashley RAFVR. Comprising: WWII period RAF Officers service dress cap. Complete with bullion cap badge, black leather chinstrap and leather sweatband. The latter with ink name Pashley The hat with a South African Tailors label. GC, small moth nips... Accompanied by a pair of ID tags stamped C.L. Pashley Offr CE 89305 RAFVR. GC (2 parts) Cecil L. Pashley, first flew in 1910 and by the end of his flying career would chalk over 20,000 flying hours and be rated the worlds most experienced Flying Instructor. In 1910 along with his brother who would be shot down during the Great War with 22 enemy aircraft to his credit, formed the Shoreham Flying Club. During the Great War, he flew as an Instructor and Test Pilot for the RNAS. At the outbreak of WWII he reenlisted into the RAF and served throughout the war. He died in 1969 age 77 years. |

| 1094 | Great War Pattern RFC flying goggles mask. A pair of triplex style tinted lens flying goggles with brown leather surround. The reverse retaining fur to the eye pieces and with leather backing. Retaining original elastic strap, this with very basic repairs and with age wear. Leather remains supple, two chips to the lens. GC The brown leather of these goggles, matches the standard colour of flying helmets and coats of the Great War Period. |

| 1095 | Royal Flying Corps Other Ranks Field Service Cap. A scarce example of the ORs Side Cap. Khaki serge material, fitted with brass RFC Cap Badge and General Service buttons. The interior with silver grey cloth sweatband and retaining both interior hooks, for the attachment of a leather chinstrap (strap absent). Also with WD issue stamp. The cap with heavy service wear and the opposite side to the badge with two sizeable moth holes and one smaller hole. |

| 1096 | RAF 1936 pattern Aircrew issue flying boots. A scarce pair of black leather with fur lining. The interior retaining leather issue labels, Size 10 with 1939 contract number. The sole and heel have been repaired and areas of fur loss to the interior. This pattern of boot was in common use during the Battle of France and Battle of Britain. |
