420     Sierra Leone Frontier Police pouch belt furniture, frame and silver cigarette box. A splendid lot appertaining to Captain G. G. W. Troughton. Head and shoulders photographic study of Troughton in uniform with pouch belt, mounted in a wooden frame which bears the gilt pouch belt furniture he wears in the photograph. The furniture comprises an Imperial Crowned oak wreath with elephant and palm tree to centre ... lions head boss, two strand chain, whistle and holder ... pouch badge of Imperial Crowned SLFP cypher. ... a fine heavy silver cigarette box bearing Birmingham hallmarks for 1899, lined with cedar and the inside of the lid gilded. The top bears the inscription Presented by the Officers, Sierra Leone frontier Force to Captain G.G.W. Troughton 28th June 1900 ... 20 cm high silver plated cup of chalice form, the front engraved with palm wreath and C.R.V.C. presented by Mr. j. Burns won by Sergt. C.CW. Troughton. All generally VGC. (£500 - £600) Sierra Leone Frontier Police formed from Sierra Leone Police Corps in 1890. Became Sierra Leone Battalion of the West African Frontier Force in 1901. |
421     2nd Regiment of Bombay Lancers 1882 Officers silver pouch. A good scarce example bearing Birmingham hallmarks for 1882. The flap is mounted with a rich gilt Crowned strap inscribed 2nd Regiment of Bombay Lancers within a Union wreath; VRI Cypher to centre. The wreath rests on a bi-part gilt scroll with foliated end inscribed Central India Affghanistan. The edge of the flap is with deep engraved decoration; the box is of black leather ornamented with two gold bullion lines; both of the floriated ends with silver hallmarked belt loops. Some service wear, securing tongue AF, device exchanged during its service life. GC (£300 - £400) Regiment adopted this title in 1883; redesignated 32nd Lancers in 1903. |
422     9th Queens Royal Lancers Victorian Officers pouch A fine example. Red Morocco lined pouch with plain gilt belt loops, the rich fire gilt flap of Regimental pattern with scallop lower edge and raised oak leaf border. To the centre, Crowned AR (Adelaide Regina) Cypher, reversed and interlaced, on a seeded gilt ground. Gilt remains fresh, leather supple. GC (£300 - £340) The Regiment attracted the notice of King William and Queen Adelaide in 1830 whilst serving at Kensington and were granted the title Queens |
423     Hertfordshire Yeomanry Cavalry 1896 Officers silver pouch. A fine and scarce Victorian example by J & Co (Jennens) bearing Birmingham hallmarks for 1896, the silver flap with deep engraved floral decoration to the edge and mounted with gilt Crowned floriated HYC cypher. Black leather covered pouch with gold bullion line. Floriated ends and belt loops with 1897 hallmarks. Minor service wear, generally VGC (£240 - £300) |
424     West Somerset Yeomanry 1858 Officers silver pouch. A fine example, the silver flap by PF (Philip Firmin) bearing London hallmarks for 1858 and is mounted with a gilt metal WSY cypher. The edge of the flap is with deep engraved floral decoration, the box has been replaced by a clothes brush. Minor service wear. GC (£200 - £300) |
425     Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry Victorian sabretache. A good Officers undress example of black leather. The face with applied silver floriated WCYC cypher surmounted by a Crown in heavy relief. Complete with wallet to reverse (closure tongue absent) and three D shaped suspension rings. 426     1st Royal Dragoons Victorian undress sabretache. A rare mid 19th Century Officers or senior NCOs example. Black patent leather face mounted with gilt metal strap inscribed Spectemur Agendo encircling regimental device of the captured Imperial French Eagle; below, a gilt metal RD cypher. The internal pocket is linen lined and has provision for quills and pencils. Two brass replacement rings support the short straps. Slight wear GC. (£300 - £400) |
427     Royal Gambia Artillery Victorian dress pouch. A fine and rare pre 1901 example of dark blue melton cloth ground, the face with gold embroidered Royal Arms and oak leaves and acorns embroidered above a gilt artillery field piece. Below the Royal Arms, a padded bi-part crimson velvet cushion scroll with a further cushion embroidered in gold Royal Gambia Artillery. Bullion slightly toned, with minor moth to the reverse. Complete with fire gilt rings. GC. (£220 - £260) |
428     South Irish Horse Officers pouch belt and pouch. A very fine and scarce example. The two and a quarter inch gold shamrock lace belt backed with black Morocco and complete with plain gilt buckle, tip and slide. ... together with plain black patent leather pouch, the face mounted with large gilt shamrock bearing SIH cypher. Complete with collapsable wallet, ornate gilt ends and plain belt loops. Patent with usual storage wear and congealing, securing tongue absent. Overall generally VGC. (£300 - £340) Raised 7th March 1900 as South Irish Horse, 1902 redesignated South of Ireland Yeomanry, 1908 reverted to South Irish Horse, disbanded 1922. |
429     Royal Horse Guards Victorian standard bearers belt. A good very scarce example. Four and a half inch gold lace belt, of oak leaf and acorn design, with two half inch lines of crimson velvet. Retaining large gilt metal buckle bearing oak leaves and inscribed Royal Horse Guards, tip bearing Crowned star inscribed Waterloo June 1815 with Peninsula scroll beneath, and slide again ornamented with oak leaves. Gold lace toned, a little service wear. Overall GC (£500 - £600) |
430     Royal Wiltshire Militia 19th Century Field Officers epaulettes A fine and rare pair of the 1830 box pattern. The silvered crescent on each one supports fine twist wire tassels. The strap is decorated with silver embroidery of acorns and oak leaves and is mounted with a large Bath Star; within the crescent a padded cushion embroidered with an entwined VR Cypher; each retaining silvered regimental button. The base is of red leather with silvered clip stamped with the retailers name of John Jones 6 Regent Street. Some age wear, silver toned and some wear to the tassels. (£340 - £400) John Jones operated with this trade name 1832-1868. |

432     Yeomanry Officers 19th Century Cavalry barrel sash. A rare and unusually long example, with two lines of crimson flash cord. Each line is with nine silver bullion woven sections. Terminating with crimson lines, bullion acorn devices now absent. Minor age wear, silver dulled to near black GC. Approximate length of belt section only 92 inches. (£40 - £60) |
433     64th Foot (2nd Staffordshire) Officers box pattern epaulettes. A fine and scarce pair of the pattern introduced in 1830 and abolished along with the coatee at the end of the Crimean War in 1855.. The gold lace strap is mounted with a Regimental pattern button and to the base a fire gilt crescent supporting fine twist wire tassels. The underside with leather backing to the strap, padded cushion and Buckmaster 1848 patent gilt locking plate for attachment to the coatee. Bullion remains fresh and bright. Near VGC. Housed in their original, chamois lined japanned carrying / storage tin complete with carrying handle, hasp and staple; the top bearing brass Buckmaster plate. VGC (£440 - £500) |
434     Medical Staff Corps Field Officers 1830 pattern epaulettes. A fine and rare pair of the box pattern epaulettes worn by a Lieutenant Colonel. The bullion strap mounted with a large bullion Crown. Within the fire gilt crescent a padded cushion embroidered with VR Cypher. The crescent supports fine twist wire tassels. The underside is of padded crimson silk, with tie fittings for attachment to the coatee. Bullion remains very bright and fresh. Housed in a metal storage tin. (£260 - £400) |
435     Scottish sporran. A fine example following the design of the Seaforth Highanders. Silver plated cantle, the ends engraved with thistles, mounted with silver thistle and stags head; above the stags head, numerous erased honour scrolls in silver. The body is of white goats hair with two black tassels (one a lettle browner but an obvios pair) emanating from silver plated bells with engraved thistle design. GC (£120 - £150) |
436     25th County of London (Cyclists) Officers pouch and belt. A fine scarce post 1908 example. Two and a quarter inch tan leather pouch belt mounted with silver plated lions head boss, three strand chain, whistle and holder and plate. The latter comprising a Crowned laurel wreath with circlet inscribed County of London Cyclists; to the centre, a cycle wheel bearing numerals 25. Mounted on the base of the wreath, a small tablet inscribed Tenax et audax ... zinc lined pouch of brown leather, the face bearing silvered cap badge device and edged in silver lace with central crimson silk line. Evidence of previous pouch belt plate. VGC (£300 - £400) Typed note, signed by H.L. King 1978 states This pouch belt and pouch was worn by Major Commandant (Later Lt. Colonel Gilbertson Smith .... it had formerly borne the badges of the unit when they were designated Middlesex Cyclist Volunteers. |
437     Shropshire Yeomanry Cavalry 1830 pattern box pattern epaulettes. This rare gold bullion pair are of special Regimental pattern. The strap and section within the bullion crescent is richly embroidered with a gold bullion scallop shell motif. Complete with fine twist bullion tassels and retaining fire gilt buttons embossed with the initials SYC surmounted by a crown. The underside of the epaulettes retain yellow padded silk cushion. Bullion with slight age wear, but remains good. Contained in half of the original cardboard storage box. ... Accompanied by a pair of bullion tassels, possibly from a cocked hat. .... Also a pair of gilt shoe buckles, possibly from an English Court Dress. GC (3 pairs of items) (£300 - £500) |

A fine and scarce pair of post 1901 boxed pattern epaulettes of the pattern worn by a Governor General serving in an overseas dominion other than India. Silver bullion with silvered crescent supporting fine twist wire tassels. To the centre of the crescents, a gold bullion embroidered Rose, Thistle and Shamrock device. Retaining original special pattern mounted buttons Accompanied by a metal storage box. The epaulettes are now attractively mounted into a deep glazed wall frame for display. GC (£100 - £150) |

440     1st Lancashire Mounted Rifle Volunteers Officers pouch circa 1861. A very scarce black patent leather example ornamented with silvered shield, surmounted by a Crown, with three lions in pale to the centre. Plain silvered belt rings. Patent slightly congealed and minor split to seam on one side of wallet to the reverse otherwise GC. (£50 - £100) See Light Horse and Mounted Rifle Volunteers 1860-1901 by W.Y. Carman, page 175 for illustration. Formed 22nd March 1860 and became the 1st Lancashire Light Horse in February 1861 whence they adopted the Royal Cypher on their pouches. |

A good example, the black cloth face edged with gold lace, the centre with high embossed, heavily embroidered bullion Royal Arms, with Ubique scroll beneath, resting in a demi-wreath of laurel and oak; below the wreath, a gilt gun with mounted wheel resting on a padded tri-part crimson velvet scroll inscribed Quo fas et gloria ducunt. Complete with three D shaped suspension rings. Complete with leather wallet to the reverse. The sabretache is of good quality and bullion is only slightly dulled. ... The front with a rich seeded gilt rectangular plate with burnished edges mounted with silver Crowned GR Cypher within an oak wreath bearing a scroll to the base inscribed Dieu et mon Droit.
