760     Grenadier Guards large photographic album of the Ashanti War.
A fine and rare large format example, with leather spine and corners, believed to have been compiled by the Hon. Grosvenor Arthur Alexanda Hood who features in the first page as a Royal Artillery Officer. He transferred to the Grenadier Guards 26th August 1889. Throughout the album he is noted as plain “G. Hood” or “Hood”. Superb large photographs of Queen’s Birthday 1890; Sgts’ Mess 1891 (named); 1892 Hythe; Bisley; Grenadiers in Dublin, Chelsea Barracks, Aldershot 1895 (foreign service uniforms). There are fascinating images from the few Grenadiers in the Ashanti Expedition showing various troops, camps, natives etc. Then back to Aldershot and London with reviews, manoeuvres etc. Approx 235 photographs of various sizes. 761     King’s Dragoon Guards Large Photograph Album.
An interesting album containing snap shots, group shots, parades etc. The Album was compiled by a Pre Great War Officer and include a Lancashire OTC, 1913 Parades at Sandhurst, one image in the Trenches at Thiepval Circa 1915, 1923 Parade at Cologne, plus a series of photographs on the North West Frontier Circa 1920’2, 1930’s. The images are various sizes and remain clear giving good detail. GC. (£50 - £60)

By W.Y Carman, with illustrations by Richard Simkin. Contained in original card Cover. Near VGC ... Accompanied by a 1891 edition of Epochs of the British Army by Lt Col H.S. Spalding and illustrated by Richard Simkin. This copy retains all eight colour illustration plates. However the book has suffered in the hands of a child. Main text and plates not effected. 764     WWII “Marking Time” The newspaper for British Escapers in Switzerland.
This large bound volume contains editions of the paper covering the whole of its publication 26th May to 15th September 1944. An English Newspaper aimed at the numerous Allied Escape and Evaders who had been interned in the country. The fly sheet of this copy is signed by a number of the original team who worked on the paper including Lt Col Desmond Young Editor. Near VGC. (£40 - £60)

Attributed Colonel D’arcy Clark. This small series of letters date from 1913 to 1919. Mostly replies to letters sent. Includes an interesting four sheet account of the Colonel spending time in the front line over the Christmas of 1914 and discusses the problems of enemy snipers. 797     Great War Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps Photograph Album.
The album, was compiled by a member of the Corps and contains a number of small box brownie style snap shots. These include Australian soldiers, destroyed buildings, including Ypres and snaps of the WAAC in mess halls, off duty etc. A few images faded GC. Contained in the original album. (£30 - £50)
798     2nd Bn Dorset Regiment Large Impressive Presentation Photograph Album
This album was presented to Lt Col W. Clemson DSO on his retirement from the Regiment in 1931. Containing 12 large group shots of different sections of the Battalion Officers (all named), Band MG Company etc. The album has a large number of blank pages. The exterior is of dark blue grained leather to the front a gilt tooled regimental device with the date XMAS 1931. VGC. Very little wear. (£50 - £100)

800     Hand-written Journal of Lieut. Alington, 68th who died at Malta 1852.
A fine leather bound journal, the cover gold blocked “Journal. Lieut. George Hugh Alington, Her Majesty’s 68th Light Infantry; died at Malta, June 9, 1852”. The first entry is dated 1st January 1846, Coblentz, when appointed an Ensign in 68th. It logs his daily life and postings in Ireland, purchase of commission, witnessing a deserter’s corporal punishment, a shooting etc. A fascinating insight into the life of an Officer of the period. Together with 1852 hand-written copy of letters concerning the last illness and death of Alington by his brother with later annotations including “Poor Wynne died a soldier’s death at the bloody battle of Inkerman Nov 5th, 1854!”. 803     5th Royal Irish Lancers miniature portrait of an Officer.
A good Victorian / Edwardian oil on board half length study of the Officer in blue lancer tunic with scarlet plastron, gold lace pouch belt, cap lines etc. He holds his lance cap in his right arm, only the dark green swan’s feather plume visible. Mounted in oval gilt glazed frame ... companion head and shoulders miniature of this Officer’s lady sporting a cross suspended from a black choker, white silk dress with a pink rose on her breast. Both housed in a break-fronted brown leather frame. Velvet backing worn, silk lining stained and shot. Portraits generally VGC (£180 - £220)
804     French Empire Period Gilt Frame, with later print.
This attractive gesso gilt wood frame, is decorated with acanthus leaves, an Imperial Crown and turned pateri. Now containing a later coloured print depicting the French 4th Regiment of Light Dragoons charging into battle. GC gilt remains bright. Size 32 x 36 inches. (£100 - £200)

The water colour depicts an Officer full length circa 1825. He wears scarlet coatee with royal blue facings and edged with gold lace decoration. To his head a belltop shako with plume. In the background is a Sergeant of the Regiment. Colours remain bright, with signature to lower left corner RW 1893. Slight foxing marks and age wear. Now mounted into a gilt wood glazed frame. Overall size 11 1/2 x 15 inches. (£100 - £120)
Reginald Augustus Wymer 1849-1935. Commissioned into 34th Foot 1867, transferred to 91st Highlanders in 1870 and resigned 1871. 1896 became a Captain in 2nd militia Bn. QO Cameron Highlanders and retired as a Major in 1905.

808     WWII period Fougasse Soldiers Sailors & Airmans Families Association Posters.
Two posters now framed. The first in the style of Fougasse and shows an Airman sitting on a packing case having a cigarette and thinking of Home. Gives details of the Association to the base. The second poster is a text example “Air Raid Problems and Personal Enquiries” Contact SSAFA for Help. With an address for High Wycombe.
