1040     78th Highland Regiment (or Ross-shire Buffs) pre 1881 Officers dirk. An extremely fine and scarce example. The clipped back 12 inch blade, double edged for the lower 6 inches is finely etched both sides with Crown over Cuidich n rhiand thistle sprays with Assaye Maida Java, Elephant and 78 Highland. The handle is carved of black bog oak of intertwined design, with gilt metal studs. The front with crossed claymores and bonnet design; a gilt metal pommel holds a foiled citrine. Housed in original scabbard of black patent leather with fine fire gilt mounts; the top mount with regimental device of St. Andrew within a thistle wreath, the other mounts of thistle devices in relief. Complete with original knife and fork, each with interlaced designed handle with gilt metal pommels containing foiled citrines. Blade engraving remains clear and legible although with some staining. Fire gilt mounts remain very fresh. Leather dry and split between chape and bottom mount. Near VGC (£1,500 - £2,000) The last battle honour is Waterloo, this would indicate pre 1855. The battle honour Sebastapol, was granted to the regiment 16th October 1855 |
| 1041     Calcutta Scottish silver mounted dirk by Hamilton & Co., Calcutta. A very fine and exceedingly scarce post 1911 example with clipped back 12 inch blade, double edged for the lower 6 inches. The black bogwood grip is of an interlaced Celtic design decorated with silver studs and surmounted plain silver pommel ornamented with chain design band; the top of the pommel mounted with glengarry pattern badge device. The base of the grip, which covers the throat of the scabbard, is ornamented with chain pattern that mirrors that on the crown of the pommel. Black leather covered sheath with applied silver mounts with applied thistles and chain design.; Top mount stamped H & Co Silver and with Indian Elephant hallmark. | 1042     Seaforth Highlanders post 1881 Officers dirk. A scarce post 1881 example by Marshall & Aitkin, 12 South St. Andrews St. Edinburgh. Clipped back blade, double edged for the lower 5 inches finely etched with regimental title Cuidich n rich, thistle sprays with Elephant Assayeand Royal Arms. Black carved polished bogwood grip of Celtic design with gilt studs, the lower part carved with crossed swords and Highland bonnet, the pommel ornamented by a foiled citrine in gilt thistle mount. Housed in original scabbard of black patent leather with thistle ornamented gilt mounts supporting knife and fork both with bearing matchng foiled citrine pommels. The mounts are of regimental pattern, the topmost bearing St. Andrew and the Cross within a wreath of thistles; the chape of regimental trefoil design. Gilt worn, otherwise GC. (£800 - £1,000) |

| 1044     Imperial German blue and gilt 1916 presentation sword. An extremely fine quality example of the 1911 Infantry pattern by Jahenckels, Solingen with gilt hilt, folding guard bearing Prussian eagle and black wire bound grip bearing gilt Crowned Wilhelm II cypher; initials on the pommel cap. Plated double fullered blade, the top half richly ornamented with gilt designs. One side bears blue panel with gilt lettering Unserm liben Gustav Kother zur Beförderung zum etatsm San. Feltwebel., the other side bears similar panel Gewidmet von seinen Kameraden des festungs ~ Laz. I. Cöln, 14.4.16.. Housed in its black painted steel scabbard fitted with one loose suspension ring. | 1051     English Civil War Charles I Mortuary Sword. A rare example carried by a Royalist Cavalier. Single edged straight blade with a double central fuller and hilt reinforcements running onto the forte. The hilt with a basket guard, incorporating three open bars, with scrolling decoration The underside of bowl is decorated with two masks of King Charles I. The bull pommel bears engraved decoration. Retaining original wire bound grip, decorated with ornate Turks Head knots. Overall dark patina with minor age wear. Blade length now 32 inches. (£1,200 - £1,500) |
| 1052     1806 Fife Militia Presentation Sword. This example was presented to Major Rutherford in 1806. The sword gives the appearance of a Light Company example. The blade is that of a 1796 pattern, with half length engraved decoration depicting a Crowned GR Cypher, Trophy of Arms and a mounted Officer. The hilt with a shell boat guard, single knuckle bow and a lion head pommel, with mane flowing down the back strap. All these in fire gilt. The grip of silver twist wire. Housed in original polished steel scabbard, this fitted with two loose rings. To the top of the scabbard is an oval panel engraved Gifted by the Grenadier Company Fife Militia to Major Rutherford as a testimony of respect and esteem for his uniform attention to mark interest when Captain of this Company 1806. The gilt to the hilt remains bright. Only traces of Blue and Gilt decoration remains to the blade. Three quarters the way down the blade there is a repair. Scabbard with some dents. | 1064     An unusual mid 19th century Customs Officers sword. Believed to have been carried by a Customs Officer. The piped back slightly curved single edged plain blade bears the makers details of Lambert & Brown of 236 Regent Street London. Open three bar brass guard and shagreen grip. Housed in original black leather scabbard with brass mounts. Originally with two loose rings one now absent. Minor wear GC. (£400 - £500) Lambert & Brown used this trade mark between 1835-1842. |
| 1065     Northamptonshire Imperial Yeomanry Officers sword. A good scarce 1902-08 example of the 1821 Light Cavalry pattern by Stohwasser & Winter, 39 Conduit St. London. The blade is etched with a rearing horse surmounted by a Crown and NIY below, Crowned ER VII cypher, floral decoration and shield from the Royal Arms. Three bar open guard with twisted wire bound shagreen grip. Housed in original polished brown leather field service scabbard (slightly AF). Generally VGC. (£300 - £350) With its origins in the Northamptonshire Yeomanry Cavalry which was formed on 3rd May 1874, disbanded 1828, reformed 1830 and disbanded again in 1873, the Northamptonshire Imperial Yeomanry was raised by Earl Spencer on 7th February 1902 with its HQ at Northampton. On 1st April 1908 it transferred to the Territorial Force as Northamptonshire Yeomanry. |

The blade is etched with a Royal Coat of Arms and the retailers details of Symons Devonport. The hilt with a sold gilt folding guard incorporating a crowned fouled anchor and lions head pommel. Housed in original black leather and gilt mounted scabbard. (no middle band, appears to have been fitted), the top mount fitted with a frog stud. No loose rings. The gilt remains bright, the blade with staining and heavy pitting to the point. Early banana shape raised lock plate, with scroll and foliage engraving. The heavy set swan neck cock with bulbous top jaw screw. The frizzen with shaped and chamfered edges. Full stock woodwork with carved decoration and inset with silver wire to the butt. Steel ramrod, side plate, trigger guard and heavy butt cap this with extended ears. All are with chisel design.
