984     1918 Royal Air Force 1st pattern Khaki Officer’s Cap.
A rare example of the pattern introduced on creation of the RAF in April 1918. Khaki cotton material with black leather peak. Retaining original mohair cap band and embroidered cap badge. The interior with leather sweatband and cotton lining. The body of the cap remains in good condition and good shape, however some heavy moth damage behind the cap badge. The mohair band is in relic condition with very heavy moth damage. (£100 - £200)
985     RAF 1941 pattern Aircrew Mae West.
This example of the regulation pattern retains label (Medium size) and all the web ties. The exterior with service wear, remains in good condition. (£150 - £200)
986     Royal Air Force Air Commodore’s uniform & mess dress.
Service dress with rank lace to the cuff indicating Air Commodore. To the left breast post 1953 pilot’s wings, with three row of medal ribbons comprising: CB, DFC, AFC, 1939/45 Star, Atlantic Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, GSM, CSM, MID 1953 Coronation Medal. Complete with post 1953 anodised buttons ... Accompanied by overalls ... shirt ... Also Mess uniform, the jacket with bullion rank lace and pilot’s wings ... Waistcoat of regulation pattern with gilt buttons... Overalls. The overall condition is good a good clean set. (6 items) (£100 - £150)
987     RAF Uniform of Air Marshal Sir John Lapsley KBE, DFC, AFC WWII Fighter Ace.
Service dress with rank lace to the cuff indicating Air Marshal. To the left breast post 1953 pilot’s wings, with three rows of medal ribbons comprising: KBE, DFC, AFC, 1939/45 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Africa Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, GSM, CSM, MID 1953 Coronation Medal. Complete with post 1953 anodised buttons ... Accompanied by overalls ... and shirt ... Also Mess uniform, the jacket with bullion rank lace and pilot wings ... Waistcoat of regulation pattern with gilt buttons ... Overalls. The overall condition is good a good clean set. (6 items) (£100 - £150)
Air Marshal John Hugh Lapsley served as a fighter pilot in the western desert with 80 and 274 Squadrons gaining 11 Kills. He was posted to North West Europe where on D-day he commanded 125 Spitfire Wing. Remaining with the RAF after the war, he held a number of postings including CO of 74 Squadron, last AOC-C Coastal Command, before his last posting before retirement as Defence Attaché Washington. He died in 1983.
988     WWII RAF Air Gunner’s Log Book.
This example was compiled by Flight Sergeant C.A. Webster whose flying career would include the Washington, the RAF variant of the American B29 Superfortress. The log covers the period July 1944 to October 1953. Age wear to the cover. (£100 - £120)
Flight Sergeant C.A.Webster’s training began on the 10th July 1944 with his first operational posting to 195 Squadron in April 1945. Before the end of the war he undertook three operations one to Potsdam a flight of 9 hours and the last major attack on a German City by Bomber Command. He also took part in Food Drops to the Dutch and the flying back of POW’s. Remaining with the RAF he converted to the Lincoln Bomber and at one time was attached to the RAAF. In January 1952 he joined 90 Squadron which had been specially formed to fly the Washington Bomber, this was the RAF variant of the US Superfortress. His flying career came to an end in October 1953.
989     WWII Fleet Air Arm Swordfish Air Gunner’s Log Book.
A scarce example compiled by Air Gunner M.V.M. Bennett RN, who was later commissioned and killed. Covering the period March 1940 until 1944. The log has been bound in blue leather with gilt tooling. Titled “Vol 1” GC. (£60 - £100)
Air Gunner later Lt Michael Vivian Marshall Bennett started his training on the 3rd March. On qualifying he was posted to 812 Squadron at Gibraltar, where he took part in a number of Anti Submarine patrols. On one occasion being engaged by a Spanish Anti Aircraft Battery. On completion of his tour in August 1942 there is a gap in his flying until July 1943 and then a few entries. It appears that Bennett received a commission and was listed as killed on the 8th December 1944 whilst serving at HMS Jackdaw.
990     1918 Royal Flying Corps Pilot’s Log Book.
This log has been compiled by a Sergeant serving at the Central Flying School at Uphaven. His entries show his flights as a passenger between 14th August 1918 and 17th December 1918. Very neat hand and in very clean condition. (£40 - £60)
991     WWII Period attributed RAF Officer’s Service Dress Cap.
This example by Gieves Ltd is attributed to Group Captain M.C. Adderley OBE AFC & Bar, when he was a junior Officer. The cap is the regulation pattern, complete with bullion cap badge and leather sweatband. Tailor’s label with ink name “Adderlay”. Slight service wear, break to the chinstrap. GC. (£80 - £100)
Group Captain M.C. Adderley OBE AFC & Bar, was commissioned in 1938 in the post war years he served in Malaya and was awarded a King’s Commendation and served in Korea receiving the US DFC, Bronze Star and Air Medal. He retired in 1972 with the rank of Group Captain.
992     WWII RAF Sergeant Bomb Aimer’s Battledress Blouse.
A scarce example, to the left breast a padded Bomb Aimer’s brevet with the medal ribbons of the 1939/45 Star and Africa Star. To each sleeve printed RAF eagles and Sergeant’s chevrons. Fitted with a contemporary Aircrew style escape whistle (not AM stamped). The interior retaining issue label “War Service Blouse 1945”. GC with a little service and age wear. (£100 - £150)
993     Royal Flying Corps Officer’s Field Service Side Cap.
A good example complete with Bronze Cap badge and RFC buttons. The interior with a quilted lining and tailor’s label of Farrell & Sons Camberley. One or two moth holes, with some age wear GC. (£60 - £120)
994     RAF 1943 (Escape Pattern) flying boots.
A good clean pair with white sheepskin lining. The boots have been resoled at some time. GC. (£80 - £120)
995     RAF WWII aircrew issue trousers.
The battledress pattern RAF trousers are Canadian made and retain the original label Suit Aircrew Trousers-Serge 1942. Unissued condition. (£50 - £100)
996     An important WWII RAF Night Fighter “Ace’s” tunic.
Worn by Squadron Leader C.F. Jimmy Rawnsley navigator to Group Captain John “Cats Eyes” Cunningham. Officer’s service dress tunic , the collar with “A” either side, the cuff rank lace denoting Flying Officer. To the left breast, Navigators brevet and medal ribbons of the Distinguished Service Order, Distinguished Flying Cross, Distinguished Flying Medal with bar, 1939/45 Star and Air Efficiency Medal. Complete with brass button and tailor’s label of Austin Reed London with ink name C.F. Rawnsley 1941. With service wear GC. (£200 - £300)
Jimmy Rawnsley became Navigator to “Cats Eyes" Cunningham in late November 1940 while flying with 604 Squadron. The pair were to fly through the war together and accumulate 17 destroyed aircraft plus a number of probables together. Awarded the DSO in 1944. After the war Rawnsley remained with the Auxiliary Airforce and this would explain the drop of rank to the uniform.

An Elizabeth II example tailored by Bates of London. Regulation pattern with two rows of gold bullion oakleaves to the peak. Complete with Air Officer’s pattern bullion cap badge. Leather sweatband. Good size. VGC. Complete with original Bates card storage box. (£100 - £120)

A good example, of the regulation pattern, with light blue piping to the curtain and welt of the crown. Complete with gilt buttons, but badge absent. Tailored by Bates of London. GC ... A selection of official Air Ministry photographs believed to have been taken at Malta during a visit of a foreign senior naval officer.
