758     Life Guards Victorian Officers Helmet. The skull of German silver decorated with gilt brass laurel and oak leaf design. Gilt rose pattern ear bosses support a gilt brass velvet backed chin chain. To the front, helmet plate of half laurel/half oak leaf wreath surrounding the Collar of the Order of the Garter and surmounted by a Crown. Mounted to centre is a cut silver star of the Order of the Garter. The gilt pierced Garter is set onto blue enamelled ground, to the centre, the Cross of St. George in red enamel. To top of the helmet a gilt and silver spike rises from an eight pointed star and supports the white horse hair plume. Overall condition is near VGC. Lining to the interior absent (£1,500 - £2,000) |

Gilded skull surmounted by a crosspiece base and plume socket supporting a black horsehair plume with gilt rose boss. To the front a regimental pattern helmet plate, with a pierced gilt Garter on a blue enamel ground. To the centre, a VR entwined cypher in silver set on a red translucent enamel ground. Gilt rose pattern ear bosses support velvet backed, chin chain. The overall condition is Very good, with little age wear. Lining to the interior now absent. (£1,500 - £2,000) |

Black oil cloth with two gilt metal lion head bosses supporting the original gilt chin chain with velvet backing. Below the crown an oil skin simulated boss. The interior is with full crimson silk lining and leather sweatband. Complete with gold bullion cap lines terminating with acorn devices. German silver skull, to the front a Regimental helmet plate of a cut silver star, within a Crowned Rose leaf wreath. The star mounted with gilt title 1st West Yorkshire Yeomanry Cavalry and to the centre a silver rose. The ornate plume holder supports a white horse hair plume. Complete with silvered chin chain with velvet backing and to the interior a cotton lining. Overall Good condition, one or two minor dents. (£1,000 - £1,200) |
| 764     North Somerset Yeomanry Cavalry Troopers helmet. A scarce example of the 1847 (Albert) pattern worn by the regiment 1854-1901. Silvered skull decorated with gilt metal floral leaf design. Helmet plate comprises a wreath, half of laurel, half of oak ; within the wreath an ornate shield surmounted by a Crown. On the shield, an eight pointed silvered hobnail star mounted with a brass strap inscribed The North Somerset. Entwined VR cypher to centre. Rose head bosses support a brass chin chain with leather backing. The plume holder of leaf design supports a scarlet and white flowing horsehair plume with a rose head boss. | 765     1st Huntingdonshire Mounted Rifles/Light Horse helmet A rare example the skull of black japanned leather with silvered edge to the peak. To the front a silvered helmet plate comprising an ornate MV cypher surmounted by a ducal coronet. The cypher rests on a two part scroll inscribed 1st or Duke of Manchesters To the crown a silvered plume holder supports a scarlet and white horsehair plume. | 766     20th Middlesex (Artists) Rifle Vols. ORs issue helmet. A scarce and good quality example of the Other ranks issue grey cloth Home Service pattern helmet. Grey material, with blackened brass fittings, to the crown a cruciform base supports a blackened brass spike. To the front helmet plate comprising Maltese cross surmounted by crowned MR cypher with 20 resting on a scroll inscribed Artists. Centre of cross mounted with heads of Mars and Minerva. The interior with leather sweatband, the lining retaining original paper label of Hobson of London and ink name 4761 Pvte E.W. South B Company. Near VGC, with some surface moth traces ... Contained in metal storage tin. (£400 - £600) Badge designed by J.W. Wyon the famous medal designer who served as a private in the Corps. Unit raised as 38th Middlesex RV, renumbered 20th in 1880. Attached to Rifle Brigade in 1881 and became 28th County of London (Artists Rifles) in 1908. 1947 became 21 Special Air Service (Artists) |
| 767     Tower Hamlets Militia Colonels 1856 pattern shako A rare Field Officers 1856 pattern shako. The body of black beaver skin with black patent leather dished crown, neck and front peaks. To the top of the body can be found two lines of silver lace indicating Lieutenant Colonel. To the front a silvered ten pointed star, the topmost point displaced by a Crown. Mounted on the star, a circlet inscribed Queens Own Light Infantry Militia; within the circlet, a strung bugle. The crown mounted with a green woollen ball tuft and silvered holder. Complete with original patent leather chinstrap and to the interior leather sweatband with crimson silk edging and lining. Bearing the tailors detail of Buckmaster London. Minor age wear, the shako remains generally VGC. (£750 - £1,000) |
| 768     Zulu War period Officers Foreign Service helmet. A rare late 19th century example by Hawkes & Co, London. Typical of the shape associated with Zulu, Sudan and Boer Wars. A six panel whitened body with leather binding and eight fold linen pagri. The pagri with a pink and green silk badge to the left side. To the crown a gilt metal ball and retaining a gilt chin chain. The interior with green cloth to the front and rear peaks (later replaced restoration). Complete with leather sweatband with crimson cotton edging. Generally near VGC, retaining a good shape, minor restoration. (£600 - £800) The shape of the Foreign Service pattern helmet loosely mirrored that of the Home Service pattern helmet. |

| 781     Royal Dragoons Officers Albert pattern helmet circa 1848-71. A fine and scarce example possibly worn by the Bandmaster. German silver skull with ornate plume holder of gilt metal supporting a white horsehair plume. To the front, within a gilt metal wreath of laurel and oak, a crowned rococo shield mounted by a silvered eight pointed star bearing oval gilt metal strap inscribed The Royal Dragoons; VR Cypher to centre. Both the front and back peaks are ornamented with applied acanthus leaves; two gilt rose bosses support the velvet lined chinchain (velvet replaced). Replacement lining. Slight restoration. Near VGC (£1,000 - £1,500) The regiment wore black plumes except for the Band who wore white plumes. |
| 782     4th Royal Lancashire Light Infantry Militia Officers 1869-78 shako. A fine and scarce green cloth example by Curtis and Curtis. Two bands of quarter inch silver lace to top of the crown, one row around the base. To the front, a silvered eight pointed star, the topmost point displaced by a gilt crown. On the star a gilt circlet Royal Lancashire Light Infantry with silver crowned rose resting in the curve of a bugle. Green wool tuft (pom-pom) supported by a five leaf holder with plain ball. Complete with velvet backed chin chain supported by silvered rose pattern bosses and at the rear by a black lions mask. Crimson silk top to sweatband and quilted silk lining part shot. Overall GC. (£400 - £600) Raised 22nd March 1853 at Warrington. Became 3rd Bn. South Lancashire Regiment on Friday 1st July 1881. |

Dark blue body with diced band of regimental pattern. Scarlet piping to the welt of the crown. The interior is with oil cloth sweatband and crown, with tailors stamp, also with issue stamp 1899. | 791     12th Prince of Wales Royal Lancers Field Officers Peaked Cap. A full dress example attributed to Major E.C. Fox MBE, who served in WW2 attached to the 27th Lancers. The cap of scarlet cloth, with blue piping to the welt of the crown and quarters. Complete with regimental Kings Crown silvered and gilt cap badge and a row of bullion to the peak. VGC. The sweatband with the ink name fox and contained in the original Herbert Johnson box, which is addressed to Major E.C.Fox. (£60 - £100) Major Fox had joined the Regiment in the ranks and at the outbreak of WWII was a Sergeant Major. He was instrumental, along with Colonel Ian Smith, in forming the 27th Lancers. In 1945 he was commissioned Quartermaster and saw service in Palestine and Malaya. |

To the left side, a gilt crowned pierced circlet inscribed Nec aspera terrent on a blue translucent enamel ground; to the centre, a silver ERVII cypher on a red translucent enamel ground. | 804     19th Century continental Officers shako in its case. A fine example approx 16 cm in height by Anton Hoffer reminiscent of the 1850s British hussar shako. The black felt body almost completely covered by gold lace, the base with black patent leather band with brass buckle to reverse. To the front a gold lace rosette with outer red silk line; from the centre of the rosette, secured by a plain gilt button, a line of lace rises to the crown and returns. Black patent leather peak with wide and narrow bullion lines. A line of woven gold braid between the body and peak. Interior with deep crimson leather sweatband and remains of leather chinstrap. Inside the crown, a large paper label of Maltese cross design wit makers details. A little moth to exposed cloth portion of body at the reverse. Generally VGC. Plume / ball tuft absent. To the front, a Victorian gilt metal helmet plate, to the centre, strung bugle mounted with silver turreted archway and feathers with red enamel set on a dark green velvet (enamel and ground cloth A/F). Below the Garter, a silver scroll inscribed The Duke of Cornwalls Lt Infy. Quilted cotton sweatband and full quilted silk lining, Retains a good shape, with a little age wear. To the front, an eight pointed star, the topmost point displaced by a Crown; mounted on the star, within a laurel wreath, the Garter with St.George and the Dragon on a field of black velvet to centre. Two gilt metal lion head bosss support chin chain with velvet backing. Leather sweat band and cotton lining to the interior. The gilt and scarlet remains bright and fresh. A superb example VGC. | 814     Fife Light Horse Victorian Troopers helmet. A fine example of the 1871 pattern silvered helmet. To the front, a regimental pattern helmet plate bearing the Thane of Fife on horseback wearing full armour set against a gilt brass ribbed satire. This in turn mounted onto a four pointed silvered star, the uppermost displaced by a crown. A tri part scroll is with motto and to the centre FLH in gilt metal. Two rose head bosses support a silvered interlinked chin chain, with leather backing. A silvered spike supports a white horsehair plume, with silvered rose boss. The interior is with leather lining Near VGC. (£500 - £600) This pattern of helmet was approved by the regiment in 1896 |
| 815     East Riding of Yorkshire Imperial Yeomanry Officers lance cap. A fine and scarce example of the pattern introduced to the Regiment soon after its formation. The skull of black patent leather with the upper portion of blue melton cloth with gilt metal lines down the angles, which flow to a band of gilt metal scrolling leaves. The rich gilt plate is mounted with silvered Edward VII Crowned Cypher. Below this a running fox and tri-part title scroll East Riding of Yorkshire Imperial Yeomanry. Patent leather peak with gold bullion lines. Two fine gilt metal lion head bosss support chin chain with velvet backing. The plume boss is in the form of a silvered Yorkshire Rose, complete with gilt plume holder and associated blue swans feather drooping plume. The interior retaining leather sweatband with pencil name C. Wilson. Crimson silk lining absent.
