Edward Prince of Wales was due to be crowned on 26th June 1902 but fell ill. He made a swift recovery and was eventually crowned on 9th August at Westminster Abbey with Alexandria as his Queen.

769     1803 Royal Marine Soldiers Diary.
This short diary was compiled by Sergeant John Gibb of the Chatham Detachment of Royal Marines. who saw service on HMS Repulse 74 Guns. The diary is contained with in the fly pages of the book “Soldiers Companion containing instructions for the Drill Manual and Platoon Exercise”. Covers absent well used edition writing clear. (£50 - £100)
Sergeant John Gibb was a Gentleman of Guildford, who appears to have settled into a disagreeable marriage to his wife Sarah. Unable to continue facing her moods and anger, he left her to enlist as a common Marine. Joining the Chatham Detachment of Royal Marines July 1803. Requesting sea service due to his education he was Promoted Corporal and attached to a Recruiting Party. Sea service finally came in January 1804 when as a Sergeant he joined HMS Repulse a ship of the line of 74 Guns. He remained with her until January 1805 when he received his discharge. Writing clear GC.

This is believed to be a complete run of Cavalry, Infantry and Corps. Consisting 120 postcards. The cards depict members of the regiment in uniform, the regimental device and a brief history. This large print depicts a Sergeant of the Royal Scots Greys, scarlet tunic and bearskin. mounted talking to a Corporal of the 13th Hussars, wearing Hussar tunic and busby, he is dismounted standing beside is mount. Colour and detail is good. Now attractively mounted into an antique style glazed wood frame. (£30 - £50)
789     Mid 19th Century Coloured Charcoal Portrait of an Officer.
This young Officer is depicted half length and is wearing a scarlet coatee with the 1830 box pattern epaulettes to his shoulders. Across his chest is a white buckskin shoulder belt mounted with a square gilt plate. Signed F. Engleand dated 1846. Now mounted into a modern giltwood glazed frame. GC. 790     Mid 19th Century Watercolour Painting of an Officer.
This fine quality watercolour by a Mrs. Musgroves is a full length portrait of an Officer, wearing a Rifle pattern short jacket. Black cloth with drop loops to the front. With sword and forage cap to hands he stands against rocks in a hot climate. Mounted into a contemporary frame (gilt gesso painted brown). Size 13 19 inches. A label on the reverse states this to be Captain Sanders of the 12th Foot. (£400 - £600)
