729     WW1 North Staffordshire Regiment Victoria Cross Winners Original signature and photograph.
Sergeant John Carmichael VC 9th Bn North Staffordshire Regiment. This original WW1 period postcard side studio portrait shows Sgt Carmichael 3.4 length wearing the 1902 pattern tunic with the Victoria Cross to his chest. Across the card ink signature “John Carmichael VC”. Remains in good condition with notes to the reverse... Accompanied by an original postcard photograph of Gunner Charles Edwin Stone VC MM. Again wearing 1902 tunic, this image with heavy wear. (2 items) (£40 - £60)
Sergeant John Carmichael VC won the Victoria Cross for gallantry near Hill 60, whilst excavating a trench his party unearthed an unexploded grenade that began to burn, he without hesitation threw his steel helmet on the bomb and stood on the helmet saving the lives of the men around him. He survived and passed away in 1977. Charles Edwin Stone VC MM won the Victoria Cross for gallantry on the 21st March 1918 during the Great German Spring Offensive.
