770     King’s Royal Rifle Corps Victorian Officer’s astrakhan rifle cap
A good and scarce example of black lambs wool by Cater & Co. of Pall Mall London. To the front, a blackened regimental Maltese Device with separate oval black cord boss bearing a Victorian Crown above. The crown of the cap is of green melton cloth ornamented with mohair cord design. The interior with leather sweatband silk lining with gilt tooled tailor’s details. Retains original black vulture feather and scarlet ostrich feather plume mounted into a blackened silver plume holder. Complete with cap cords. Little age wear not effecting the overall appearance. GC. Housed in its original carrying / storage tin complete with carrying handle and brass nameplate “P.F. Mott Esq King’s Royal Rifles”. GC. (£300 - £400)
771     5th Royal Irish Lancers Victorian Senior NCO’s lance cap.
A fine and rare example, possibly worn by a Troop Sergeant Major. The skull of black patent leather with the upper portion of red melton cloth, with gold gimp cord down the angles. The crown of black patent leather. To the left side is a gold bullion rosette with embroidered VR Cypher onto a green velvet ground. This supports a green horsehair plume. The fluted plate, is of the Other Ranks pattern with a fire gilt finish, which bears Royal Arms, shamrock sprays, Maid of Erin Harp and scroll “Fifth Royal Irish Lancers”. Two gilt metal lion’s head bosses support chin chain with velvet backing. Leather sweatband to the interior (Later replacement). The overall condition is good, with some congealing to the patent leather ... Accompanied by an associated storage tin. (2 items) (£750 - £1,000)
772     2nd Bn Middlesex Regiment Officer’s Wolseley pattern foreign service helmet.
A good inter war period example. White cloth with eight fold pagri and fitted to the top fold a yellow silk line. To the front an Officer’s silvered pagri badge, set against a yellow backing cloth. This badge with the correct triangular hinged wire slider. The crown is mounted with a gilt spike and complimented with an inter linked chin chain. The interior with a green cotton lining and leather sweatband, this with ink name H.A. Hanley 2nd Middlesex Regt. A little age wear, few moth nips to the lining cloth not effecting the appearance Near VGC. Housed in a large foreign service helmet storage tin with corresponding painted name to the exterior. 773     Eton Volunteer Rifle Corps helmet and Pill Box Cap.
This scarce pair are attributed to S.W. Mewburn Esg. Comprising: a good pre 1901 example of a Athol grey cloth Home Service Pattern helmet complete with white metal cross piece, spike and rose bosses supporting a leather backed chin chain. To the front, an EVRC cypher surmounted by a strung bugle. Two bands of light green mohair lace around the helmet. Leather sweatband to interior, and original paper label with ink name “ S.W. Mewburn Esg Vaughton”. Near VGC. .... Accompanied by a Pill Box Cap again of Athol grey cloth, with three lines of light green mohair lace to the body. The quilted silk lining with tailor’s details of Denman & Guboard Eton High Street”. Also again a paper label with ink name. Complete with thin black leather chin strap. Few small moth holes to the crown, otherwise GC. The hats are contained in an associated Home Service pattern helmet tin with possibly later painted name to the exterior. (3 items) (£250 - £300)
Raised as 8th Buckinghamshire RVC in 1860, reformed as 2nd Bucks (Eton College) Rifle Volunteers 15th June 1878. December 1887 redesigned 4th (Eton College) VB Oxfordshire Light Infantry, 1902 reverted to 2nd Bucks.
774     Royal Engineers Territorial Officer’s helmet 1908-1914
A good scarce example of an Officer's Home Service pattern blue cloth helmet tailored by Geo B Winter of London. Complete with gilt metal cross piece, spike and rose bosses (supporting a velvet backed interlinked chin chain. To the front, post 1901 gilt Royal Arms, with laurel leaf scroll indicating Territorial this resting on a scroll “Quo fas et gloria ducunt”. Crimson silk topped leather sweatband to the interior. Gilt remains bright Near VGC. Very clean condition. (£400 - £600)
775     Welch Regiment Officer’s Home Service Metal Storage Tin.
This example with tailor’s tablet of Hawkes and Co and retaining engraved brass name plate of “J.T.C. Vincent The Welch Regt”. Little age wear GC. (£30 - £60)
776     13th (Southport) Lancashire Rifle Volunteers Officer’s shako.
A good scarce 1869-78 example. To the front a silvered Shako plate, of an eight pointed star the uppermost with crown, within the title scroll “Lancashire Rifle Volunteers” a 13 surmounted by a rose. The dark blue body, with two lines of silver lace below the crown. Complete with silvered rose bosses which support a velvet backed silvered chin chain, also with lion mask hook to the rear. The dark blue wool pompon is supported in a silvered holder the ball mounted with an entwined VR Cypher. Peak of patent black leather and to the interior a leather sweatband and silk crimson lining (This now shot). Overall GC. ... Accompanied with an associated black metal storage tin. (£400 - £600)
777     1871 6th Inniskilling Dragoons Trooper’s helmet.
A good 1871 example. Silvered skull surmounted by a gilt metal crosspiece and plume socket supporting a white horsehair plume with brass rose boss. Skull ornamented with a laurel wreath and an oak leaf band rising from the edge of the neck piece and terminating under the crosspiece at the top. To the front a cut brass star mounted with silvered Garter Strap with 6 to the centre. Brass rose pattern ear bosses support the 1 inch wide, leather backed, chinchain. Retainsg leather lining. Few minor dents to the skull. GC (£400 - £600)
778     Robin Hood Rifles OR’s Field Service cap.
A good example of black woollen cloth, complete with blackened silver regimental King’s Crown cap badge, this bearing the battle honour “South Africa 1900-02” The cap retains black horn buttons and oilskin cloth sweatband to the interior. Traces of Hobson & Son paper label. GC. (£40 - £60)

A scarce example by Herbert Johnson. Dark blue cloth with gold lace band of regimental pattern and gold Russian braid piping. The cap is complete with distinctive regimental Prince of Wales’s plumes silvered badge. Some service wear. GC.

A scarce dress example, with scarlet body & Crown, with dark blue curtain and peak. Retaining Bullion Lancashire Rose bullion device and gilt regimental buttons. The interior with tailor’s details of Herbert Johnson of London. and original owners initials “C.P.F.H.” VGC colours bright. (£40 - £60)
781     Highland Regiment Other Rank’s Feather Bonnet
A good clean example, of black dyed ostrich feathers with three tails. Wide bottom diced band of red, white and black. Mounted with a black silk badge backing and a white metal King’s Crown Black Watch badge. Mounted with a large red cut feather plume. The interior with leather sweatband and full cotton ling. Also with simulated leather chinstrap. (£80 - £120)
782     Austrian WW1 Officer’s shako.
A good pre 1916 Officer’s shako. Black melton cloth body, with patent leather crown and peak. The peak decorated with a row of bullion. To the front a gilt metal Imperial Austrian Eagle, Gold lace band of regimental pattern. Complete with a bullion cockade; the black centre bearing a bullion embroidered F.J.I. cypher (Franz Josef I). The interior is with crimson lining, this with gilt tailor’s details. Also leather sweatband and chinstrap. Minor service wear, bullion dulled. GC. ... Housed in original leather a cotton lined carrying case. The interior with corresponding gilt tailor’s label. Case with a little age wear. (2 items) (£200 - £300)
The Emperor Franz Joseph, one of the longest reigning monarchs, ruled the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1848 until his death in November 1916 when he was succeeded by the young Archduke Karl. Upon his succession, the FJI cypher were changed to that of the new Emperor.
783     Victorian Volunteer Engineers Staff Officer’s cocked hat.
A good clean example of black beaver by Hawkes & Co of London. To the left side a black silk rosette with a loop of silver regimental pattern lace secured with a silvered purl button. Ornamented with black lace of oak leaf and acorn design. At each end, bullion tassels. The interior retains leather sweatband and crimson silk pleated lining, with gilt tooled tailor’s stamp. Complete with white over red short feather plume. Minor service Near VGC. Contained in a metal storage tin. (£100 - £150)
784     Royal Engineers Victorian Officer’s busby.
A very clean tall example (8 1/2 inches) of black fur, with plain blue bag and mounted with a fine quality fire gilt Victorian regimental flaming grenade plume holder, this holding a blue vulture feather over short white horsehair plume, with gilt ring. The interior with quilted cotton sweatband and crimson quilted silk lining. Replacement chinstrap. silk lining shot. Housed in original metal storage tin bearing brass engraved name plaque “W.H. James Esq. Royal Engineers”. (£150 - £250)
785     Royal Horse Artillery Officer’s busby.
A fine quality Officer’s busby of black fur. Plain scarlet bag to the crown which falls to the right side. To the body of the busby has three lines of gold gimp cord. Fitted to the crown is a tall white ostrich and vulture feather plume, this fitted with a four leaf gilt socket. To the interior, leather sweatband and silk lining the later with gold embossed tailor’s details of Hawkes & Co of London. VGC. Plume housed in original storage tin. (£400 - £600)
786     Army Ordnance Corps Officer’s helmet.
A fine and scarce post 1901 example of the 1878 pattern Home Service Helmet. Dark blue cloth the , front peak trimmed with gilt metal; gilt metal cross piece, spike, spine and rose head bosses supporting the velvet backed chinchain. To the front, a gilt metal helmet plate. Within the Garter, in silver, the board of Ordnance shield on a black velvet ground. Leather sweatband topped with cream silk. Gilt very fresh, little age wear. 787     Victorian Artillery Volunteers Officer’s helmet.
A fine example of the 1878 pattern Home Service Helmet. Dark blue cloth, the front peak trimmed with silvered metal and complete with cross piece and ball top. Retaining the velvet backed chinchain. To the front, a silvered Royal Arms, the scroll at the base inscribed “Volunteer Artillery”. Leather sweatband with crimson silk edging The interior with a paper label “R.B. Dick” Near VGC (£400 - £600)
788     11th Hussars Victorian Officer’s pillbox Cap.
A rare example, the crown and body of crimson cloth, the latter with a wide band of regimental pattern gold lace. To the crown ornate gold bullion cord knots with a pearl button to the centre. The interior with leather sweatband and crimson silk lining, this with gold tooled tailor’s details of Hawkes & Co. Complete with thin black leather chinstrap and housed in a card storage box. Colours bright near VGC. (£200 - £300)
Please note that the lace design conforms very closely to that shown in the 1900 dress regulations, but not a true match. The 11th Hussars wore crimson cloth.

A good example, the body of scarlet cloth, with black curtain and crown. The curtain with a bullion embroidered regimental badge. The cap is also with bullion cord piping. The interior with cotton lining and tailor’s label of Welsh & Jefferies St James London. Little service wear GC. (£50 - £100)
790     Ayrshire Yeomanry Victorian Officer’s pillbox cap.
A rare example, the crown and body of dark blue cloth, the latter with a wide band of regimental pattern gold lace. To the crown ornate gold bullion cord, with a pearl button to the centre. The interior with leather sweatband and crimson silk lining, this with gold tooled tailor’s details of Hawkes & Co. Complete with thin black leather chinstrap Bullion remains fresh GC. (£200 - £300)
The lace pattern conforms to that found of the regimental Sabretache.
791     North Somerset Yeomanry Cavalry Victorian Officer’s 1847 “Albert” pattern helmet.
A fine and scarce example worn by the Regiment circa 1854-1901. Silvered skull decorated with gilt metal floral leaf design. Helmet plate comprises a wreath, half of laurel, half of oak; within the wreath a crowned ornate shield bearing an eight pointed silvered hobnail star mounted with a brass strap inscribed “The North Somerset”. Entwined VR Cypher to centre. Rose head bosses support a brass chin chain with leather backing. The plume holder of leaf design supports a white flowing horsehair plume with a rose head boss. The interior retains quilted cotton sweatband. Minor age wear to the interior, with a little wear to the plating of the skull. GC (£1,000 - £1,200)
792     2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen’s Bays) Victorian Officer’s field service cap.
A good scarce example circa 1896-1901 by H. Lehmann, Military Tailor & Outfitters, Aldershot.. White melton body with black crown, curtain and peak. The crown with gold French braid piping, the curtain secured at the front with two mounted gilt regimental buttons. Sewn onto the body, a black backed bullion badge of crowned laurel wreath with old English “BAYS” to centre. Black leather lining bearing gold blocked maker’s details, velvet swearband. Some moth and foxing. (£80 - £120)
793     Irish Guards Other Rank’s Wolseley pattern foreign service helmet.
A good inter war period example. Khaki cloth with eight fold pagri and fitted with a khaki cotton cover to the outer lower edge. The interior with a green cotton lining and leather sweatband, the under side of this is stamped “2717082 1IG”. Complete with leather chin strap, this a little dry to the ends Evidence of a badge worn to the front. VGC (£100 - £200)

A good example tailored by Gieves, of the pattern worn by Captains and Commanders. Dark blue cloth with King’s Crown bullion cap badge; the cloth peak ornamented with a row of gold embroidered oak leaves. Complete with leather sweatband. GC little service wear. (£60 - £100)

797     Gordon Highlanders Officer’s feather bonnet, with silver Badge.
A good scarce attributed example of dyed Ostrich feathers of regimental pattern with five tails. Velvet edged diced band of regimental pattern bearing black silk rosette mounted with silver hallmarked (Edinburgh 1921) regimental bonnet badge, supporting a cut white feather hackle. To the rear of the bonnet two silk tails. Red leather sweatband, with crimson cotton and complete with two piece black leather chin strap. Overall Good Condition. ... Contained in a Hobson’s metal storage tin, this with a paper package label with name “Capt A.M. Imlay”. (£500 - £800)

A rare example of dark blue material, the interior with a full blue chequered cotton material. The cap is a small round shape, typical of the type associated with the late 19th Century. Near VGC. (£75 - £100)

A very good attributed example worn by Major George James Chapman OBE. Dark brown fur, with plain blue bag and mounted with a fine quality fire gilt Victorian regimental flaming grenade plume holder, this holding a short white horsehair plume, with gilt ring. The interior with leather sweatband and scarlet quilted silk lining. Near VGC. Housed in original metal storage tin bearing engraved name plaque “G Chapman Royal Engineers”. (£150 - £250)
Major George James Chapman OBE was born in 1861 and in 1892 was appointed an Assistant Surveyor with the rank of Lieutenant. At the outbreak of the Great War he held the rank of Major and served with the Staff been appointed an OBE in 1919. He retired from the Army in March 1922.

A rare example of the pattern worn by the regiment until converted to Lancers in 1897. Dark brown soft fur, with French Grey bag bearing three lines of gold Russia braid and gold gimp button. To the front, a gold gimp oval cockade. White vulture and ostrich feather plume supported in a fire gilt holder. To the interior, leather sweatband and silk lining. The later with gold tooled tailor’s details of Hawkes London. Complete with red leather backed fire gilt chin chain (stitching faults) The overall, condition is good, bullion dulled to a dark colour, plume dusty. (£400 - £600)

This example of dark brown fur, with plain scarlet bag. To the left side a silvered regimental pattern flaming grenade plume holder. The ball of the grenade is mounted with gun within a wreath. Complete with white horsehair plume. The interior with leather lining and and crimson silk lining, this with gold tooled tailor’s details of Hawkes London. GC, scarlet dulled with light surface moth traces. This busby has provision for a plume to the front. (£150 - £200)
803     8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars Victorian Officer’s busby circa 1880.
A good seven and a half inch tall example. Scarlet bag with three lines of gold flat braid and bullion gimp purl button. To the front a bullion gilt cockade supports a four leaf gilt ball socket with white ostrich and scarlet vulture feather plume. To the interior, leather sweatband and brown silk edging, tailor’s gold embossed stamp of Cater & Co. London. Three gimp bullion cords to the body of the busby. Retaining gilt gimp chinchain with leather backing. Service and age wear and some thinning to the fur in parts. (£350 - £500)
804     Life Guards Victorian Officer’s helmet
The skull of German silver decorated with gilt brass laurel and oak leaf design. Gilt rose pattern ear bosses support a gilt brass velvet backed chin chain. To the front, a crowned wreath half laurel, half oak, surrounding the collar of the Order of the Garter and surmounted by a Pre 1901 Crown. Mounted to centre is a cut silver star of the Order of the Garter. The gilt pierced Garter is set onto blue enamelled ground, to the centre, the Cross of St. George in red enamel. To top of the helmet a gilt acanthus leaf holder supports the white plume. Complete with red leather lining. The overall condition is good,, but the shell has a dent to the right side and appears to have been possibly lacquered, wear to the front peak. (£1,200 - £1,500)
805     Victorian Highland Light Infantry Volunteer Field Officer’s shako.
A rare good quality example. Dark blue body with diced band red-white-red and red-green-red. Just below the crown a band of 3/4 inch lace, indicating Field Rank. To the front, a regimental shako badge, with blank scroll. Above this a cord boss (thistle device absent) Complete with plaited cap lines and dark blue woollen ball tuft. (Boss absent). Black patent leather peak. The interior is with leather sweatband and brown silk lining with tailor’s gold stamp for Herbert & Co 16 St James Street New Market”. The shako retains a good shape, GC. Housed in metal storage tin. (£300 - £400)
806     Scottish Highland regiment feather bonnet.
A fine example of black dyed Ostrich feathers with four tails A black rosette mounted onto the wide red and white, red and black diced band, bears a badge of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. This supports a white cut feather plume. To the rear of the bonnet three black silk tails. The interior retains leather sweatband and scarlet cotton lining. Complete with black leather chin strap. VGC (£100 - £150)

A rare tall 7 1/2 inch example worn by Captain A.C. Pole. Dark brown soft fur, with white bag bearing three lines of gold Russia braid and gold gimp button. To the front, a gold gimp oval cockade. White vulture and ostrich feather plume supported in a fire gilt holder. To the interior, leather sweatband with silk edging. Complete with velvet backed fire gilt chin chain. Bullion cord now dulled otherwise Good Condition. The busby is housed in original metal storage tin with brass engraved name plate “A.C. Pole 13th Hussars”. 815     Sudan / Boer War White Foreign Service Helmet.
A rare example of the pattern commonly shown been worn during the late Victorian campaigns. This example with six panels, with cotton covered zinc button to the crown. The interior with retaining original leather sweatband, with crimson silk edging. Maker’s stamp of Hawkes & Co. Complete with leather backed chin chain. The helmet retains a good shape, pagri is now absent, evidence of a badge having been worn to the front. (£800 - £1,000)
816     Coldstream Guards Victorian Officer’s bearskin.
A good scarce black fur regimental example of good shape tapering to a tail at the rear. Internal wicker frame and leather sweatband. Also with original paper tailor’s label of Cater Pall Mall London with a VR Cypher. Complete with graduated chin strap, with black leather backing. Overall condition is good retaining a good shape. The leather sweatband is present, but with stitching faults, basic repair to small section of wicker frame, which also has a hole to the skin. Stitching fault to chin chain. Remains a good display item. (£400 - £600)
This bearskin has provision for plume, on the right side indicating the Coldstream Guards.

A good example with dark green cloth body, with patent leather peak and band. To the front, a Victorian regimental pattern shako plate. Complete with black patent leather chin strap and cockerel feather plume. Interior retains leather sweatband, with crimson silk edging. Lining material to the inside absent. Little age wear. 819     12th Prince of Wales Royal Lancers Victorian OR’s lance cap.
A good example. Black patent leather body, peak and crown with ornate gilt metal fleur bosses to each corner. regimental lance plate to front with Victorian Coat of Arms, battle honours up to Sevastopol. 820     Royal Company of Archers Cocked hat.
A rare example worn by the body guard of Scotland. Black beaver skin body. A black silk rose is mounted with a gold bullion Order of the Thistle, further bullion decoration incorporates a gilt metal button of the Royal Company of Archers. Complete with bullion tassels fore and aft. The interior retains leather sweatband, crimson silk lining and tailor’s details of Hawkes & Co of London. Plume absent. VGC Bullion fresh. Housed in metal storage tin. (£200 - £300)
821     2nd Life Guards helmet of Major Charles Hall MVO, Bandmaster 2nd Life Guards.
The skull of German silver decorated with gilt brass laurel and oak leaf design. Gilt rose pattern ear bosses support a gilt brass leather backed chin chain. To the front, helmet plate of half laurel/half oak leaf wreath surrounding the collar of the Order of the Garter and surmounted by a Pre 1901 Crown. Mounted to centre is a cut silver star of the Order of the Garter. The gilt pierced Garter is set onto blue enamelled ground, to the centre, the Cross of St. George in red enamel. To top of the helmet a gilt acanthus leaf plume holder. The helmet retains a good shape, with no dents to the skull. Silver is fresh and gilt to the helmet plate has worn to the copper base metal. 822     Middlesex Regiment Officer’s helmet circa 1902-14.
A very fine example of the 1878 Home Service pattern blue cloth helmet by Hawkes & Co. 14 Piccadilly, London. The front peak trimmed with gilt metal and complete gilt metal spine, cross piece, spike and rose bosses supporting a velvet backed chin chain. To the front, a rich gilt universal crowned star pattern plate mounted with laurel wreath and Garter; the centre with silver laurel wreath, Prince of Wales’s plumes, Duke of Cambridge’s coronet and cypher on a black velvet ground. To the base of the wreath, an applied silver tri-part scroll “The Middlesex Regt”. Crimson silk topped leather sweatband to the interior. VGC ... housed in an associated storge / transit tin. 823     West Yorkshire Regiment Officer’s helmet circa 1902-14.
A fine example of the 1878 Home Service pattern blue cloth helmet by Cater’s, 66A St. James’ Street, London. The front peak trimmed with gilt metal and complete gilt metal spine, cross piece, spike and rose bosses supporting a velvet backed chin chain. To the front, a gilt universal crowned star pattern plate mounted with laurel wreath and Garter; the centre with silver Horse and motto “Nec Aspera Terrent” on a crimson velvet ground. To the base of the wreath, an applied silver tri-part scroll “The West Yorkshire Regiment”. Cream silk topped leather sweatband to the interior. Gilt finish with some wear otherwise VGC ... housed in japanned storge / transit tin being brass plate engraved “B.P. Paget The West Yorkshire Regiment”. (£400 - £500)
824     North Salopian Yeomanry pre 1837 Officer’s helmet.
An impressive rare example of the “Roman pattern” Heavy Dragoon Officer’s helmet. Silver on copper skull with gilt metal turned edge, mounted with large comb ornamented with a lions head with paws outstretched, the mane flowing back along the crest. To the centre of the comb provision for a red and white horsehair plume. The skull bears gilt metal laurel leaf decoration. To the front, a gilt shaped plate bearing pre 1837 Royal Arms, this is mounted on to a rayed semicircular gilt metal plate with square ended rays. The rear of the helmet is with oval panel with entwined NSY initials. To each side, a large finely detailed lion’s head bosses supports the ornate acanthus leaf velvet backed chin scales. To the interior, original headband but lining no longer present. A few minor dents and slight rippling in places. Some light sympathetic restoration such as straightening of creased rear peak otherwise GC. (£2,500 - £4,000)

A good scarce example of dark blue cloth,with wide scarlet band to the body, piping to the welt of the crown and central button. The interior with leather sweatband (missing to parts) and cotton lining. The latter retaining original paper label of Hobsons & Son. GC. (£40 - £60)
826     Royal Artillery WW1 Intelligence Officer’s Cap.
A rare example made of slightly waterproof khaki cotton and fitted with a green material cap band, indicating a Staff Intelligence Officer, bronze RA cap badge and buttons which support a correct pattern thin brown leather chinstrap. The interior with leather sweatband and cotton lining. Some service wear, good condition and shape. (£100 - £150)

This example retains brass engraved name plate “E.H. Stocker 13th Hussars” Also tailor’s plate of “Cater & Co Pall Mall London. Exterior with age wear. GC (£30 - £50)

A good and scarce example by J.B. Pearse & Co. of Covent Garden. Black sealskin with plaited dark green mohair cord swag across the front. To the front, an oval green cord boss mounted with blackened King’s Crown Maid of Erin Harp with title scroll across the centre. Complete with a black over green horse hair plume with black plaited base. The interior retains leather sweatband. Minor age wear, near VGC. (£100 - £150)
829     Irish Army steel helmet.
An example closely resembling the WW1 Imperial German helmet, retaining three pad leather lining, with leather band,. White finish to the shell and complete with a chinstrap, one clip broken. The helmet with heavy age wear, rusting to the shell, leather to the lining has been wet at some time, and now dry. (£60 - £75)

830     Royal Navy, Civil Branch Commissioned Officer’s cased cocked hat set.
A rare turn of the century set. The fine black beaver skin cocked hat has to the left side a black silk rosette with a single loop of gold bullion lace, mounted with a post 1902 gilt button to the centre. The cocked hat is edged with one inch black lace; at each end, bullion tassels with blue lines. The interior retains leather sweatband and silk pleated lining and tailor’s label for Mathews & Co of Portsmouth ... Accompanied by special pattern full dress bullion epaulettes of gold bullion lace and cord, with an outer edge of silver indicating Civil Branch. To the crescent, a gold compass rose and complete with Victorian gilt button ... Sword belt, complete with gilt regulation pattern post 1901 waist clasp and sword slings. Contained in the original metal and velvet lined storage tin bearing the name of “C.H Turrall”. The overall condition is good. The hat remains clean, bullion bright. Epaulettes are slightly dulled, all tassels present, one or two part detached. Sword belt VGC. Tin with some age wear. (£250 - £300)
The epaulette would indicate the Civil Branch rank of Chief Carpenter 1891 RN Dress Regulations
831     An important Royal Gloucestershire Hussars trooper’s shako circa 1844-60.

A rare example of regimental pattern believed to be the sole survivor of the type in the world. Dark blue cloth body and dished crown. To the top of the body a wide band of yellow mohair lace with three lines of scarlet, this pattern of lace is repeated to the rosette device mounted with a plain domed gilt button. To the front can also be found a yellow cord boss, to the front upon a scarlet ground an embroidered entwined VR Cypher. The shako retains yellow and scarlet plaited cord across the front that rises to the rear and terminates with acorn devices. The patent leather peak is edged with a brass trim. The interior retains a leather sweatband and waxed cotton lining. The crown is with a plume mount, slight age wear, GC, retains good shape, leather to the back dry in parts. Please Note. This important shako was received too late for illustration, but photographs can been seen of this item on our web site www.bosleys.co.uk (£1,200 - £1,400)
The shako was introduced to the Regiment in 1844 after the marriage of the daughter of the 7th Duke of Beaumont married the Austrian Ambassador 1844. It was finally replaced by the busby in 1860.

833     Japanese WW2 period Senior Officer’s full dress head-dress.
A good scarce example of dark blue cloth with black patent leather peak. Six lines of gold braid around the band and with two lines from each quarter rising over the ridge and down to the recessed crown with bears a gold braid pentangle. Gilt star burst badge to front; chrysanthemum ornamented buttons support a black chinstrap. The interior retains thin leather sweatband and dark blue lining with Officer’s name in white Japanese characters. Complete with white over red feather plume. VGC (£200 - £300)
