920     The Black Watch, Royal Highlanders of Canada, Highlanders Officer’s sword by Wilkinson.
A scarce EIIR example of the Scottish Highland pattern sword. The straight doubled edged blade with central fuller is etched with a Crowned EIIR Cypher and panels of thistles. The reverse with the regimental badge and title. The forte with the Wilkinson’s logo, blade numbered 8369. Full nickel plated basket guard with pierced heart panel design enclosing a simulated shagreen grip with twist silver wire binding. Retaining full buff leather and scarlet faced lining and crimson tassel. Housed in brown leather scabbard with plated chape. One or two small moth holes to scarlet lining, otherwise near parade condition. VGC (£350 - £500)
921     Royal Scots Officer’s sword by Wilkinson.
A scarce Victorian example of the Scottish Highland 1831 pattern sword. The straight doubled edged blade with central fuller is etched with a reverse entwined VR Cypher, panels of thistles, regimental title and armorial crest. To the forte the Wilkinson’s logo and crest. Blade numbered 35626 (1898). Full nickel plated basket guard with pierced heart panel design enclosing a shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Retaining full buff leather and scarlet faced lining and crimson tassels. Housed in nickel scabbard. The sword appears to have been professionally refurbished by Wilkinson. A little wear, few moth holes to scarlet cloth, but remains in near parade condition. (£350 - £500)
922     Scottish. Seaforth Highlanders Field Officer’s sword.
A scarce Edward VII example retailed through Hobson of London, blade no. M2781. The blade etched with thistle devices, regimental device and title “Duke of Albany’s Highlanders” surmounted by a crown, Reverse with full length etched decoration of regimental battle honours, the last for Chitral. Complete with Field Officer’s special pattern pierced honeysuckle guard with scarlet liner, blue silk edging, shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in nickel plated scabbard. A little age wear overall GC (£350 - £500)

923     Huntingdon Militia brass hilted hanger.
A good example of the 1751 pattern. The single edged curved fullered blade bears running wolf armourer’s stamp, also central initials “SH” to both sides of the blade Solid brass hilt with three bar open guard, the grip is of a spiral design; ball pommel. The shell guard is engraved “M. Huntingdon 1/16”. GC, sword cut to the back of the guard. (£180 - £220)

935     1751 Officer’s Militia Pattern Sword.
A scarce example of the 1751 pattern. The double edged straight blade, is with central fuller. The solid brass hilt is with single bar guard, the grip is of a brass spiral design, with ball pommel. The shell guard is engraved TW31. Blade length 26 inches. Some age wear with pitting to the blade GC (£150 - £200)
936     Edwardian Northumberland Fusiliers Regimental Pattern Attributed Officer’s Sword by Wilkinson.
A scarce example of regimental pattern by Wilkinson. carried by Lieutenant Malcolm Methven Carlisle, who died whist serving in India 1906. The blade is etched with the regimental device, Battle Honours of the Regiment the last being Afghanistan 1878-80. The blade also with etched entwined initials “MMC” To the forte the cutler’s details of Wilkinson and the blade number 39452. The hilt is of the infantry pattern, incorporating an EVIIR cypher and mounted with a silvered regimental device. The shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Complete with original polished steel scabbard and bullion sword knot. The sword remains in near parade condition VGC. (£300 - £350)
The sword is attributed to Lieutenant Malcolm Methven Carlisle. He was born in 1884 and educated at Harrow, where he was for two years in both the Cricket and Football Elevens. This he carried forward to Sandhurst which he entered in 1902 where he was Captain of both teams. Gazetted to the Northumberland Fusiliers in 1904 he joined the 1st Bn at Mauritius Promoted to Lieutenant in February 1905 he was attached to the Durham Light Infantry serving at Lucknow, it was here that he became ill and in May 1906 died. His obituary appeared in the regimental journal the St George Gazette June 1906 and was accompanied by a photograph of Lt Carlisle in uniform with sword.
937     Edwardian Northumberland Fusiliers Regimental Pattern Attributed Levée Officer’s Sword
A scarce example of regimental pattern, carried by Lieutenant Malcolm Methven Carlisle, who died whist serving in India 1906. The levée 3/4 inch blade is etched with the regimental device, battle honours of the regiment, the last being Khartoum. To the forte the retailer’s details of W.Cater & Co. The hilt is of the infantry pattern, incorporating an EVIIR cypher and mounted with a silvered regimental device. The shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in original polished steel scabbard, complete with both leather and bullion sword knots. The sword remains in near parade condition VGC. (£250 - £300)

A scarce George V example of the Scottish Highland 1831 pattern sword. The straight doubled edged blade with central fuller is etched with a GVR Cypher, panels of thistles, regimental title and initials A.P.I To the forte the Wilkinson’s logo and crest; blade numbered 59297. Full nickel plated basket guard with pierced heart panel design enclosing a shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Retaining full buff leather and scarlet faced lining and crimson tassels. Housed in nickel scabbard. and accompanied by a second field service scabbard leather with nickel chape. The overall condition is good, but with minor age and service wear. The thread to the tang of the blade is worn. (£400 - £500)
Alexander Peter Imlay was born 1st February 1885 at Comongin South Station, Bulloo River; the son of Alexander William Imlay, station manager, and his wife Emma Carbery, née Woodlands. He was educated at Crown Street Superior Public School, Sydney and became a commercial traveller. He married Edith Henrietta Murray at the Marrickville Presbyterian Church on 22nd December 1909. Thereafter he went to Adelaide as a mercantile manager for Arthur Cook & Sons.

He had served in the New South Wales Scottish Rifles from 1901 to 1908. 1st July 1914 Alexander joined the 75th (Hindmarsh) Infantry, Australian Military Forces at Adelaide and commissioned into 16th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force on 29th September. He embarked for Egypt on 22nd December 1914. Promoted Lieutenant 25th March 1915. He landed at Gallipoli on 26th April 1915 and was involved in heavy fighting. Seriously wounded on 2nd May, he was evacuated to England. Recovered, he rejoined his battalion as company commander at Gallipoli on 31st October. Promoted Captain 20th January 1916 in Egypt and in March transferred to the 48th Battalion as second-in-command and gained his Majority. Between March and June, as part of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force, he was involved in operations against the Turks in the Sinai Desert. Wounded on 13th May, he was hospitalised for two weeks before embarking for France on 2nd June.

Between June and November in France and Belgium Imlay engaged in operations at Houplines, Fleurbaix, Pozières (where he was wounded but remained on duty), Mouquet Farm, Wytschaete, Flers and Gueudecourt. On 1st March 1917 he transferred to the 47th Battalion as second-in-command and after the 1st Battle of Bullecourt on 11 April was awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He took command of the battalion on 20th April following the wounding of Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Lewis and was promoted temporary lieutenant-colonel. On 12th October at Paschendale he was severely wounded by shellfire and was evacuated to England; for his 'gallantry and conspicuous bravery' he was awarded a Bar to his DSO. Returning to France on 4th February 1918, he was again wounded on 5 April at Dernancourt but remained on duty. In May the 47th Battalion was disbanded and Imlay, who had been four times mentioned in dispatches, was given command of the 12th Training Battalion at Codford, Wiltshire, England. He remained with this unit until it was disbanded in February 1919. His A.I.F. appointment was terminated in August after his return to Australia.

Alexander Imlay was promoted major in the A.M.F. in August 1920 and transferred to the reserve of officers as lieutenant-colonel in October. Next year he joined the Gordon Highlanders, as a Captain and in 1930, after a period of secondment, transferred to the Royal Indian Army Service Corps. Promoted Major in 1935, he retired in 1937 but was reappointed in 1940 as major (honorary Lieutenant-Colonel) for service during World War II. He died on 23 April 1959 at Skene, Aberdeen, Scotland, survived by his wife and children

941     WW1 4th Bn Middlesex Regiment Warrant Officer’s Issue Sword By Wilkinson.
A scarce and unusual example, possibly worn by a Warrant Officer. The sword conforms to the Infantry Officer’s regulation pattern, the blade with etched decoration including a crowned GVR Cypher. The forte with cutlers details of Wilkinson London. The back edge of the badge with issue stamps “9/13” plus WD Arrow. The guard with GVR cypher and further stamping “11-14 4MD 153”. Shagreen grip retaining twist wire binding. Housed in polished field service scabbard, this again with issue stampings. Little staining to the blade near VGC. (£100 - £120)
942     Edwardian 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons Officer’s sword by Wilkinson
A good post 1901 heavy cavalry pattern. The single edged slightly curved blade is with etched to the obverse with a crowned reversed EVIIR cypher and initials reverse entwined S.J.S. The reverse etched in detail with the regimental device and title “6th Inniskilling Dragoons”. The forte bears the cutler’s details of Wilkinson London with blade number 40098 . Steel guard of regulation pattern, shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in brown leather field service scabbard. Etching to the blade is clear. Overall clean condition, leather to the scabbard is dry. (£400 - £600)
The Wilkinson Records indicate that this sword was purchased by S.J. Sasson. Lt Sasson Joseph Sasson was born in 1885 and was appointed a Lt in the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons in 1908. By 1919 he was a Captain serving at the War Office

Single edged blade with double edge point with issue stamps 1900, with further inspection stamps. Double leather chequered grip with three rivets. Solid steel guard, this with the unusual feather of three small holes. Housed in steel scabbard with two fixed rings to the scabbard. The sword with a near black patina. the blade has been tipped and reground to a round point. (£60 - £100)

This example with a flat 20 inch slightly curved blade, bearing armourer’s stamps to both sides. The steel mounted hilt with an S shape cross guard and round quillons. The grip is of staghorn, with a middle steel band and flat pommel mounted with a ball finial. GC overall dark patina to steel. (£120 - £180)

This modern example is with plain blade with single fuller. The hilt with a carved interlaced design grip decorated with nickel studs. The throat and pommel band are of brass with thistle decoration and amber coloured glass stone to the pommel. Complete with a simulated leather and nickel mounted scabbard. An attractive example of good quality bearing Edinburgh hallmarks for 1963; the clipped back highly polished stainless steel blade mounted into a black bog oak handle of interlaced design surmounted by silver pommel containing a amber coloured glass stone. 950     1st Life Guards Officer’s State pattern sword by Wilkinson. Brother of a VC Winner.
A scarce George V period example, carried by Lt Robert Lambart Dunville, who’s brother John Spencer Dunville won the Victoria Cross in 1917 whilst serving with the Royal Dragoons. The single edged blade with etched decoration, The obverse depicting: Crowned GVR Cypher and lion’s paws armorial crest. The reverse with the regimental device and battle honours, the last being Paardeberg. To the forte is etched the cutler’s details of Henry Wilkinson; blade is numbered 43500 (1912). The polished steel guard is mounted with entwined gilt metal letters L.G , with 1 to the centre, surmounted by a crown and bears gilt metal stud decoration. Shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in original steel scabbard with gilt metal mounts and two loose rings. The blade remains in good clean condition, etching clear. GC. (£500 - £750)

951     Royal Horse Guards Victorian Officer’s state pattern sword By Wilkinson
A scarce late 19th century Officer’s state pattern sword. The single edged blade with cutler’s name of Wilkinson London; blade number 15756 (1868). The blade is etched with a Crowned reverse entwined VR cypher and the reverse with crowned RHG Cypher. The plated guard is mounted with entwined gilt metal letters RHG surmounted by a Victorian crown. Also with gilt metal stud decoration. Shagreen grip with twist wire binding and rounded chequered pommel. Housed in original steel scabbard with gilt metal mounts and two loose rings. Etching to the blade remains clear, few marks, otherwise GC. (£500 - £750)
952     Scots Fusilier Guards Crimea War Period Sergeant’s regimental pattern sword.
A rare regimental pattern, the slightly curved single edged blade with single wide fuller. The forte etched with the cutler’s details of Herbert & Co London. The special pattern hilt with a brass knuckle guard incorporating the regimental device of the Order of Thistle. The shagreen grip retains wire binding and surmounted by a lion head pommel. The single langet with an embossed thistle device. Housed in original brass mounted leather scabbard. The top mount with frog stud and embossed again with the cutler’s details. The overall condition is good, blade still fits fully into the scabbard. Some staining to the blade and an old repair, during its working life, to the guard and backstrap. (£500 - £750)
Herbert & Co started to trade with this name from 1850, the lack of loose rings to the scabbard, would suggest pre 1856.

A good family bladed example with good quality 25 inch blade retaining distinctive hamon; the tang is signed “Yamato Fujiwara Masa Toshi”. Fish skin and bound grip complete with tsuba, and with a silvered family Mon, near the pommel. Complete with army metal scabbard. Blade remains clean, paintwork to scabbard with age wear. 970     Waterloo Period flintlock Cavalry Carbine.
A scarce example of the first pattern British Cavalry pattern carbine. 24 1/2 inch smooth 10 Bore barrel with London proof stamps. The lock with swan neck cock, Crown over GR stamping,. Full hand rail stock, with brass furniture, to include butt plate, (stamped 35), trigger guard and two ramrod pipes and end cap. This with location bar to hold the special pattern steel ramrod into position. To the left hand side a hooked steel side bar, with swivel ring. Steel with dark polished patina, the woodwork remains a rich colour, but with some traces of old dead woodworm holes. GC. (£1,200 - £1,600)
971     1797 Dated flintlock Cavalry Carbine.
A scarce example of this early pattern British Light Dragoons carbine. 20 1/4 inch smooth 16 Bore barrel with proof stamps and lower mounted swivelling ramrod. The banana shaped lock with swan neck cock, Crown over GR and “Tower 1797” to the rear (engraved). Full hand rail stock, (Carved 9 D 30) with brass furniture, to include butt plate, (stamped 30 and entwined initials), trigger guard (Stamped RCCH E41) and single ramrod pipe and end cap. To the left hand side a brass Serpentine side plate, with long extension swivel bar and replaced ring. Minor stock cracks to the forend steel polished and the woodwork with a rich colour. 972     French Waterloo Period Heavy Dragoon Carbine
A scarce example of the pattern carried by Heavy Dragoons. Plain 30 inch 15 bore barrel. Steel lock plate with French maker’s mark, brass pan and ring neck cock. Three quarter wood work with brass butt plate, side plate and end cap. This retained by steel side spring. Steel and brass trigger guard and middle barrel band, which also locates the long cavalry side bar with swivel ring. Complete with original steel ramrod. GC, some file marks around the touch hole, possible reconverted from drum and nipple. (£700 - £800)
973     Napoleonic Period British New Land Military Flintlock Cavalry Pistol.
A good and scarce example. The plain smooth 16 bore barrel, with proof and acceptance stamps. Steel swivel ramrod. The flat plate lock marked Tower and also a Crowned GR Cypher. A good .36 Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolver, numbered 14771, with 7 1/2 inch round barrel, with streamline housing, for a creeping loading lever. The barrel is marked “ADDRESS COL. SAMl COLT NEW YORK U.S.AMERICA”. The six shot cylinder; engraved with a naval battle scene depicting an engagement between the Texas and Mexican Navies. Brass trigger guard and grip strap. the latter with walnut slab grips. This example with extended side screws possibly to accommodate a shoulder stock. Overall GC, steel has been polished, engraved battle scene clear. (£350 - £500)

A very rare .36 calibre example, with War Department issue stamp. Octagonal barrel with seven grove rifling, engraved to the top “Address. Col Colt London”. Bearing London proof marks, WD Arrow to the left hand section of the barrel. The iron frame stamped “Colts patent”. Six shot plain cylinder. All steel trigger guard and backstrap. Plain walnut grips and with matching serial numbers 19777 throughout the pistol. Barrel length 71/2 inches. GC, barrel, cylinder, backstrap shiny, barrel with dark patina. The pistol is contained in an old refitted mahogany case. Accompanied by a commercial copper flask, by James Dixon & Sons Sheffield. Plus other later, none period, manufactured accoutrements.
