856     18th Hussars Victorian Officer’s Mess Waistcoat.
An ornate example, believed to be an early pattern worn by the Gloucestershire Hussars. Dark blue cloth with white facings to the collar, this edged with gold lace and decorated with double row of swirls. To each breast 17 gold bullion cord loops, each loop mounted with five plain gilt domed buttons. Retaining and ink name label of “J.C. Eastwood” Slight age wear GC. (£80 - £120)

A fine quality and rare example. White melton cloth with gold lace edging and richly embroidered in gold bullion to the front with floral leaf decoration. Complete with bullion olivettes. The overall condition is good, but the silk back panel is now shot. (£80 - £120)

A scarce combination of uniform and accoutrements worn by Lieutenant Quarter Master T.E. Wordley. Comprising: Officer's post 1902 Home Service Pattern blue cloth helmet. This complete with gilt metal cross piece, ball and rose bosses supporting a velvet backed chin chain. To the front, a gilt post 1901 Regimental pattern helmet plate. Leather sweatband, with crimson silk edging to the interior. Tailor's label of T. Mcbride & Sons Ltd. London. Very Good Condition Gilt Bright. .... Peaked forage cap. This of dark blue melton cloth with white piping to the welt of the crown and cap band. Complete with silvered and gilt Cap Badge. Clean condition little staining. .... Full Dress Tunic. 859     Ayrshire Yeomanry Officer’s pre 1880 pattern Hussar Uniform.
A scarce example retaining the rank to the collar. Dark blue melton cloth, with scarlet facings to the collar and cuffs and each with the addition of gold bullion decoration. The collar with a Victorian bullion rank crown denoting Captain. To the front three ornate loops of gold bullion cord with loop and olivette fastening. Further cord decoration can be found to the back and edging of the tunic. The shoulders with a loop of bullion cord secured by a gilt Regimental pattern button. The interior with silk quilted silk lining ... Accompanied by overalls with gold lace. The overall exterior is in good condition, bullion bright. Silk lining part shot. 860     Royal Cheshire Militia Victorian Officer’s Shell Jacket and Waistcoat.
A rare example of scarlet melton cloth, with Royal dark blue facings to the high collar and cuffs. The jacket is edged with silver cord and to the front is a row of ten Sheffield plated buttons made by Jennens & Co London. A further two buttons can be found to the shoulders and to each cuff (16 buttons total). The Regimental pattern silver bullion shoulder cords are mounted with Victorian bullion rank crowns. The interior with quilted silk lining ... Accompanied by scarlet waistcoat with silver cord and silvered seed buttons. Both items with evidence of surface moth traces, with two small moth holes to the front of the jacket. (2 items) (£200 - £250)
861     Royal Navy Uniform of Admiral Sir William O’Brian KCB DSC.
A good quality post 1953 example of the reefer jacket. To each cuff gold rank lace of an Admiral and complete with Flag Officer pattern buttons. To the left breast medal ribbons of the” KCB, DSC, NGS, 1939/45 Star, Atlantic Star, with rosette, Africa Star, Rosette, Burma Star, War Medal, MID. The lining with tailor’s label of Gieves with typed name W.D. O’Brian Portsmouth 22.11.6?. GC. (£60 - £100)
Admiral William Donough was born in 1916, his farther a Major with the Connaught Rangers. Educated at Dartmouth he served during WW2 on various ships and was awarded the DSC in 1942. Promoted to Rear Admiral in 1964 he held various posts including Flag Officer Aircraft Carriers, Commander Far East Fleet. Created CB in 1966 and KCB in 1969 he was promoted to Admiral in that year. His last appointment before retirement in 1971 was Commander in Chief Western Fleet
862     Grenadier Guards Edwardian attributed Officer’s tunic.
A scarce example worn by Second Lieutenant John H Leveson-Gower. The tunic is of scarlet melton cloth with dark blue facings to the cuff, collar and epaulettes. Each cuff is with false flap bearing four rows of gold bullion lace each with a regimental button. The collar is ornamented with bullion lace and silver bullion flaming grenade devices. The epaulettes are without rank denoting, a Second Lieutenant Complete with regimental pattern Edward VII buttons The interior with quilted silk lining now shot. Ink name label of “John H Leveson Gower 1901” Scarlet slightly faded. GC (£150 - £250)
Second Lieutenant John H Leveson-Gower was appointed to this rank on the 25th May 1901.
863     Foot Guards Officer’s frock coat.
A scarce example of dark blue melton cloth. To each breast, six double rows of black worsted lace, with pointed ends and sewn to allow the front to hang loose. Five of the rows are sewn with olivettes in the vertical position. The epaulettes are edged with black lace rank insignia absent The stand up collar is with black lace and tracing braid. Full black cotton lining with tailors label and name “Y.A. Burges 1924”. . Good clean condition GC. (£120 - £150)

A scarce example conforming to the dress regulations of 1900. Dark blue melton cloth. To each breast, five double rows of black worsted lace, with pointed ends and sewn to allow the front to hang loose. All are sewn with olivettes in the vertical position. The epaulettes are edged with black lace. The stand up collar is with black lace and tracing braid. Further braid can be found to the back of the jacket. Full black cotton lining. GC. (£100 - £150)

A scarce jacket of stable pattern form, dark green cloth with scarlet coloured facings to the collar. The cuffs are dark green, with a padded inverted silver lace chevron. Silver bullion shoulder cords, bearing Victorian Major’s rank Crown. The jacket is edged with Regimental silver flat lace. The interior with cream quilted silk lining,...... The jacket is accompanied by a Regimental pattern waistcoat, again of dark green cloth, edged with silver bullion cord. To each breast five rows of silver cord, with loop and silvered domed button fastening. The overall condition is good, lining shot to small areas. Small moth hole to the right cuff. A scarce Edwardian example of Stable Jacket form. Dark blue melton cloth, with scarlet facings to the cuffs and collar, each with silver cord decoration, with knot to the cuffs. The jacket is edged with silver cord and retains five silver bullion olivettes to the front. Scarlet silk lining with tailor’s label of J Dege & Sons London and ink name of “Major Bagley 16-2-06. Shoulder cords absent, minor stitching faults to the silver cord and a few small scattered moth holes. (£40 - £60)

A good example of the 1880 pattern tunic. Scarlet melton cloth with green facings to the collar and cuffs. The former retaining bullion Regimental pattern collar badges. 870     16th (The Queen’s) Lancers Sergeant’s plastron tunic.
A scarce example of scarlet woollen cloth with dark blue plastron to the front. Dark blue is repeated to the facings of the cuffs and collar. The former retaining bi-metal Regimental pattern collar badges. Yellow mohair cord to the shoulders and cuffs. Complete with King’s Crown brass buttons. A rare example of the 1940 pattern blouse. To each sleeve a printed Home Guard Title, Sussex & Surrey District “SX25” and Sergeant’s chevrons. The blouse with the additional insignia of Service chevrons and proficiency diamond and bar. The interior with issue label Size 9 May 1943. (£100 - £150)

872     Royal Horse Artillery Victorian Officer’s Full Dress tunic
A superb example, the tunic of the Eton style. Dark blue melton cloth, with scarlet facings to the collar, which in turn is mounted with silver bullion flaming grenades and edged with gold regimental pattern lace. To each breast 17 double loops of gold cord, each mounted with a gilt metal post 1901 Regimental ball button. To the shoulders plaited bullion shoulder cords with rank Stars denoting a Lieutenant The reverse of the tunic is emblazoned with gold bullion cord which is arranged in crows foot loops at the top and flows down the back terminating in Austrian knots ... Accompanied by dark blue breeches with scarlet line ... Also a Royal Artillery pattern pouch belt, gold Regimental lace with gilt Runckel, tip and slide. Bullion bright and fresh. Near VGC. The rows are sewn with paired olivettes in the vertical position. The epaulettes are edged with black lace and bear bullion rank stars denoting Lieutenant. The stand up collar is with black lace and tracing braid. The back is again decorated with lace and olivettes. Quilted black silk lining to interior. 874     Fife Mounted Rifles Trooper’s tunic.
Scarlet woollen cloth with dark blue piping to the collar edging and regimental pattern cuffs. The latter mounted with four silvered “FMR” buttons. Complete with a row of six regimental buttons to the front. To the back, again blue piping and regimental buttons. Blanket lining. This example has been retailored during its working life possibly due to an expanding waistline. A little staining to the scarlet, and a number of small moth holes. GC (£60 - £100)
875     Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry Mess Jacket & Waistcoat.
A good example of an Officer’s scarlet stable pattern mess jacket. Scarlet melton cloth with white facings to cuff and collar. Plaited shoulder cords with Lieutenant rank stars and mounted with plain silvered domed buttons. The jacket is edged with silver lace of regimental pattern. To front concealed hook and eye fastening with silvered seed buttons. The back is again decorated with silver lace. The interior with quilted silk lining ... Accompanied by Regimental pattern waistcoat, this of scarlet cloth, edged with silver lace and to the front silver cord leaf design decoration. 876     North Mayo Militia 1856 pattern Bandsman’s tunic.
A very rare mid 19th century white felt example with scarlet facings to the collar, wings and slash cuffs. Each of the latter mounted with three Regimental white metal buttons. A further seven (1 absent) buttons can be found to the front, with five remaining to the rear skirt and a single button to the shoulder wing. The interior with cotton lining. GC Dusty. 877     Wiltshire Regiment Officer’s frock coat.
A very fine double breasted dark blue melton cloth example by Jones & Co, Regent St. Pall Mall, London. The front ornamented with two rows of six gilt metal regimental pattern buttons; four buttons to the skirt plaits and two on each cuff. Each shoulder strap bears two bullion Bath rank stars indicating Lieutenant. Black cotton lining with tailor’s label for Jones & Co. bearing ink details “B. H. Goodhart. 1/ Wiltshire 16/11/09” Collar badges absent. GC (£80 - £120)
Promoted Lieutenant 1911 and Captain in 1915. Awarded MC. and 1914 Star. Served France and Flanders. This Officer’s Home Service Helmet was sold by these rooms 8th December 1999, Lot 688.
878     Victorian Madras Staff Corps Officer’s Scarlet Tunic.
A good example of a Transitional 1880 pattern scarlet tunic, with rounded collar. Black facings to the collar and cuffs, each decorated with gold bullion lace. The bullion shoulder cords with bullion Victorian rank insignia denoting a Lt Col. Complete with gilt Madras Staff Corps pattern buttons. A little age wear, scarlet and gilt remains bright. (£100 - £150)
879     Lord Chamberlain 1st Class Court Dress Coatee.
A magnificent example, emblazoned with gold bullion oak leaf embroidery. Dark blue melton cloth with scarlet facings to the collar and cuffs. To each breast seven rows of floral embroidery, the uppermost flowing around the back of the neck. This pattern of embroidery can be found to the false dark blue faced pocket flaps, and flowing around the edge of each tail. The cuffs and collar are also richly embroidered. The interior lining has now been replaced. Bullion remains bright, some slight age wear. GC Royal Coat of Arms Gilt buttons to the front absent. (£300 - £500)
This pattern is worn by the Lord Chamberlain and senior members of the Royal Household. A similar example was illustrated on the front cover of the Bosleys 13th September 2006 catalogue
880     Royal Tank Regiment Officer’s Mess Uniform.
A good example tailored by Alkit. Comprising: universal pattern jacket of black melton cloth, with black silk collar. This mounted with a pair of George VI period silvered and gilt collar badges. Complete with Captain rank stars to the twist cord epaulettes The lining with typed name ”G.R. Chisholm” ... Waistcoat of scarlet cloth with flat gilt engraved Regimental buttons ... Overalls with black mohair lace line ... Cumberband ... Bow tie. Overall GC remains in fresh condition. (5 items) (£50 - £75)
881     Berkshire Yeomanry Officer’s Mess Jacket & Overalls.
The jacket is of the universal pattern, scarlet melton cloth, with blue facings to the collar, cuffs and epaulettes. The later with Captain rank insignia. the collar retains Regimental pattern badges of a Crescent and Star. Complete with regimental buttons ... Accompanied by overalls with scarlet line. Faded to scarlet of one arm. (£30 - £50)
882     5th Dragoon Guards Officer’s Patrol Jacket.
A good example of the four pocket patrol jacket, dark blue cloth, fitted with chains to the shoulders, these with post 1902 Major rank crowns. Complete with silvered collar badges and with silvered and gilt buttons. Little wear (£40 - £60)
883     General Officer’s scarlet full dress tunic.
Attributed to General Sir John Ross GCB. Scarlet melton cloth with dark blue facings to the cuff and collar. Both are richly embroidered with gold bullion lace of oak leaf design. To the left breast loop provision for medals and loops for a single Order. Complete with General Officers pattern gilt buttons. To the shoulders bullion cords mounted with a cross sword and baton and now retaining only one rank star. Also with the letter “R”. Interior with quilted cotton lining. Scarlet and bullion remains fresh, but the jacket is now with moth damage overall (£150 - £200)
Attributed by the Vendor to General Sir John Ross originally commissioned into the Rifle Brigade and served in the Crimea., North West Frontier and during the Indian Mutiny. Died in 1905
884     WW1 Royal Marine Artillery Paris tailored Officer’s Cuff Rank Tunic.
A rare example of the 1908 Officer’s cuff rank tunic. Complete with RMA bronzed collar badges and buttons. To each cuff rank lace and stars denoting a Lieutenant. The lining with tailor’s label Old Easland Paris and ink name “M Toley” The tunic is with service wear and some old repairs. Now with some small moth holes GC (£400 - £600)

A good scarce example of a black melton cloth shell pattern jacket, the high white collar with gold lace edging which continues down the front and across the bottom of the jacket. Pointed white cuffs with padded gilt braid edging. Gilt seeded buttons to the front. White piping lines to rear panel and down back seam of the sleeve. Brace of brass RDH buttons to to each cuff; shoulder cords (rank absent) secured with Bengal Lancer buttons. Lace dull, some stitch faults ... Harold Julian Amery, Baron Amery of Lustleigh, PC (1919 – 1996). Son of prominent statesman Leo Amery. Educated at Eton and Oxford. He was became a war correspondent during the Spanish Civil War. In 1940 he joined the RAF transferring the following year to the Army. During 1941-42 he served in the Eastern Med. mainly Yugoslavia where he was responsible for liaising with both Mihailovitch and Tito. in 1944, he was again parachuted behind enemy lines and fought with the Albanian Resistance as a Liaison Officer where he became a close friend of King Zog I of Albania and described him as "the cleverest man I have ever met". In 1945, he went to China to work with General Carton de Wiart, who was Churchill’s Personal Representative to General Chiang Kai Shek. He wrote a book on his exploits “Approach March: A Venture in Autobiography”. In 1950 he married Harold Macmillan’s daughter Catherine.

In post war years enjoyed a respected position in the Conservative Party being a Member of Parliament for 39 years and advising on Balkan matters both in an official capacity and covertly. He held several imports posts including Secretary of State for Air (1960-62), followed by the Cabinet post of Minister of Aviation (1962-64). He was a member of the influential Monday Club for 30 years. He was appointed to the Privy Council in 1960 and created a life peer upon his retirement from the House of Commons in 1992.
His brother John, sadly went to Germany where he raised the British Free Corps for Hitler. At the end of the war he was hanged for treason by the famous hangman Albert Pierrepoint. When Pierrepoint entered his cell to take Amery to the gallows in the next room, Amery said "Mr Pierrepoint, I've always wanted to meet you, but not, of course, under these circumstances...". . Pierrepoint said it was a memorable moment and strangely he felt "as if I had known him all my life" and said he was the bravest man he had ever executed.

The facings heavy embroidered with silver oak leaf and acorn pattern decoration. To the front a double row of Victorian buttons arranged in pairs. To the tails embroidered silver bullion Shamrock ornaments. The interior with quilted cotton lining. Minor service and age wear. Scarlet remains bright. Stitching fault to the lining not effecting the appearance of the coatee ... Accompanied by box pattern silver bullion epaulettes, with fine silver twist wire tassels. 892     Royal Dublin Fusiliers Militia Bn Colonel’s Scarlet Tunic.
A good and scarce transitional example of the 1880 pattern scarlet tunic with rounded collar. Scarlet melton cloth with dark blue facings to the collar and Field Officer’s pattern cuffs. The collar retaining bullion flaming grenade Regimental devices. The lace of shamrock embroidered design. The bullion cords with Victorian Colonel’s bullion rank insignia and a letter M. Complete with gilt regimental pattern buttons (One to shoulder absent). The tunic is tailored with provision for a breast Order, but no campaign medals. Scarlet remains bright and fresh One moth hole to front not visible when the tunic is buttoned. GC (£150 - £200)

A scarce example of scarlet wool serge four pocket tunic. Complete with gilt regim,ental pattern buttons and Lieutenant rank stars to the shoulder straps. Tailored with a belt and a box pleat to the back. Scarlet remains bright GC (£60 - £80)
905     Household Cavalry Officer’s Jack boots.
A good pair of Officer’s jack boots. Black leather, complete with polished spurs. and leather straps. Have been worn leather supple GC. (£50 - £100)
906     WWI pattern tank driver’s face mask.
A scarce and very good example of the pattern issued to British tank crews. Leather covered metal with slotted eye pieces. To the lower section to cover the mouth chain mail. The interior retains soft leather lining and all four old web ties. Leather supple, chain without rusting VGC (£250 - £300)
907     WW2, 1939 manufactured “Mickey Mouse” gas mask.
Red rubber with blue filter canister, complete with blue elastic straps. The mask with stamp date 12-39 (December 1939) and maker’s details of PBC. Contained in original card board box, with printed instructions to the lid. This pattern of mask was worn by small children. Generally VGC (£40 - £60)
