Resting within a wreath, the partial Arms of Louise XVIII being a crowned shield bearing three fleurs de lis on a lined ground. The whole resting on a demi lune base with raised double border and ornate shoulders; centrally, an applied French scroll and dot with 13 pierced to the centre; floral sprays either side of the scroll. An oval plate engraved with a large central crown, around the top, Hants Yeomen Cavalry, below the crown, Alton Division. One hook and two stud fasteners. Some wear to the plating. GC (£700 - £900) The 1804 Volunteer List shows, Alton and Petersfield Cavalry under the command of Lieut-Colonel Henry Stawel-Legge, 2nd and last baron Stawell. The corps had a strength in 1804 of 152 effectives. |

A very rare example in gilt brass, of oval outline and having a plain central reserve, a lined and decorated title oval around the edge, Loyal Sandbach & Rode Volunteers, this blacked in wax. One hook and two stud fasteners. Little gilt remains. GC (£300 - £500) Raised 20 August 1803 under the command of Lt-Col. Commandant John Ford. A corps with 360 effectives. |
| 54     West Kent Light Infantry Militia. Officers shoulder belt plate circa 1853-55. A very fine and rare example in die-stamped unmarked silver, of oval outline and bearing a raised elongated eight pointed star, upon the star a strap, West Kent Light Infantry, within the strap a strung bugle horn. One hook and two stud fasteners. VGC (£400 - £600) HQ. Maidstone. Reconstituted in 1759 the regiment was elevated to Light Infantry status only in 1853; the adoption of an oval plate at this late stage is rare but not unique. The regiment became the 3rd Battalion Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment in 1881. |

A large crowned Maltese cross, the arms of the cross with seeded and lined panels; a circular lined centre with the mounted figure, 1. (13cm x 8.7cm). Two loops to reverse. VGC (£500 - £700) The so called Albert hat, much publicised and recently illustrated and discussed in the latest MHS Special Number was the subject of Horse Guards Circular 21 September 1843. Several were made up for trial purposes and one or two still exist. Mercifully it was superceded by the 1844 pattern shako! |

Rectangular plate bearing a star; on the star a crowned strap inscribed or Wiltshire with 62 to the centre; a scroll inscribed Peninsula across the lower part of the star. Reverse retains original fixings, comprising two hooks at the top and two studs at the bottom. Mounted on the plate, a gilt saltire bearing a silver elephant and howdah. Above the saltire, a gilt scroll inscribed Fortitudo et fidelitas; below the saltire another, inscribed Dumbartonshire Volunteers. In the angle between the top arms of the saltire, St.Andrew in gilt. | 303     Scottish. 12th Perthshire Rifle Volunteers (Callander) ORs glengarry/shako badge 1860-1861. An extremely rare example in white metal. A Thistle pattern star with raised plain oval, this, and extensions mounted with the family crest of the Skinner family, a lions head erased upon a torse and wearing an Eastern or Antique crown. Two loops (pinched) to reverse. VGC (£200 - £150) This precise crest was and probably still is used solely by Skinner of Scotland (motto, Nunquam Non Paratus). John H Skinner formed the above corps, a sub-division, as Captain with commission date 26th May 1860. The other officers being, Lieut. Dougal MacGregor and Ensign James C Hands. The corps formed part of the 1st Administrative Battalion Perthshire Rifle Volunteers upon its formation in November 1860. The unit disappears from the Army List in 1861, though Grierson quotes 1865. The Skinner family are still prominent in the town. A branch, married into the MacGregor family, were once resident at Carisbrooke House, Isle of Wight. |

An extremely rare example of massive proportions (17 x 12.8cm) and featuring a central VR cypher within a strap, Sixteenth Lancers, this encircled by large Union sprays, around the sprays a seven part battle honour scroll covering the Peninsula campaign and Waterloo. At the base four further scrolls, Ghuznee Affghanistan (sic) Bhurtpore Maharajpore. The ends of this scroll indicate that two further scrolls are missing, probably Aliwal and Sobraon.
