612     82nd (Prince of Wales’s Vols) Regiment of Foot Officer’s Campaign Writing Box.
A good black leather covered mid 19th century example, the lid embossed “E.S. Lock 82nd Regt” and with recessed brass folding handle. Interior with provision for pens and two ink bottles (both absent). The inside of the lid opens to reveal a board crisscrossed with blue ribbon to hold correspondence. The horizontal “slope”, with two rectangular china plates (one cracked), folds out vertically to reveal various stationary and pen fittings on its reverse. Contains old magnifying glass (AF) and visiting card printing plate for Brig. Gen. F.R.E. Lock Indian Army, United Services Club”. Some service wear. Generally GC. Approx. 13 x 10 x 6 inches. Edward Seppings Lock joined 82nd as an Ensign 2nd October 1855, promote Lieutenant 20th January 1858 and served in the North West Provinces during the Mutiny. Present at the action of Khankur, defence of Jail and subsequent operations at Shahjehanpore, affairs of Shahabad, Mahomdee and Bunkagaon. Captain by purchase 3rd August 1866, Major 12th June 1878, Lieut-Col 29th October 1881 and succeeded to command of 2nd Bn South Lancashire Regt 27th March 1883. Promoted Colonel 29th October 1885 and died whilst in command 10th December 1886 at Pietermaritzberg at the age of 49. Box also used by his son Brigadier-General Frederic Robert Edward Lock DSO Gloucestershire Regt. later commanded 112th Infantry

A small gold coloured shield, surmounted by a crown and mounted with the regimental badge. The reverse engraved “4th VB RS Sergts Mess Bugle Price Won by Sgt W. An extremely rare example of the tin awarded to Nurses serving in France. The tin containing an original wax card packet, with pink bow and printed “Her Royal Highness The Princess Mary’s Christmas Fund 1914”. Also 1914 card and contained in original card box. VGC (£150 - £300)
It was considered inappropriate for Nurse to receive the smokers box and therefore this special chocolate pack was offered

623     WITHDRAWN Antique 19th Century Emperor Napoleon Letter Opener.
A good possible prisoner of war item made of ivory, the top depicting the head and shoulder of Napoleon in military uniform, with bicorn hat. Good condition, detail good and colour, small chip to the hat. Length 11 inches ... Accompanied by a second letter opener, again possibly POW work. 624     19th Century Ormolu and Bronze Mantle Clock Napoleon Bonaparte
This clock is crowned by an ormolu figure of Napoleon seated upon a bronzed charger, which stands on a rocky outcrop, which incorporates a clock face. This int urn is raised on an Empire style stand, resting on scrolled bronzed feet. Overall height 17 inches. The item remains an attractive item with bright ormolu. Clock Works As Found. Breast and back plates. these again of black lacquer, with blue cord decoration and silk padding. The interior to both breast and back plate with gold coloured leather padding ... Shoulder scales, These of six panes connected with blue cord. The lower panel with white and orange cotton dot decoration. .. Arm Protectors, these of fine steel mail, mounted with lacquer panel decoration and lacquer scale to cover back of the hand ... Thighs protection panel of silk and fine steel mail ... 630     3rd Bn Parachute Regiment Regimental Side Drum.
This steel tension example is emblazoned with the title scroll “3rd Bn Parachute Regiment” Para Cap Badge and Battle Honours of the Battalion. The drum has been made into an attractive side table with glass top and supported on three drum sticks. GC (£60 - £120)

632     Napoleon In Battle. A Superb Capodimonte Study.
This large and impressive figure shows Napoleon in green coatee, decorated with gilt embroidery, upon his head he wears a bicorn hat. Seated upon his grey charger, this is rearing above a broken cannon, he holds onto the reins, while his right hand holds his sword. The figure is raised on a separate china plinth, this emblazoned with Napoleons crest. Superb condition with good colours and details. Please note that the sword blade is broken, but the figure comes with an official replacement ready for fixing. Height on plinth 25 inches Width 15 inches. (£400 - £600)

634     Napoleon In Battle Bronze Study.
This large and impressive figure shows Napoleon in uniform, his cloak flowing around him, upon his head he wears a bicorn hat. Seated upon his charger, this is rearing above a broken cannon, he holds onto the reins, while his right arm is high in the air, encouraging his men forward. The figure is raised upon a low black marble plinth. GC Height 14 inches. Width 15 inches (£800 - £1,200)
635     Car pennant for a Lord Lieutenant of an English County.
A rare example comprising a multi part Union flag; the centre of each side being embroidered with a horizontal sword surmounted by a King's Crown. Leather stem/sleeve. Some service wear especially to sleeve. GC Approx 8 x 4 inches. (£50 - £75)
This design was granted in 1911 following a petition by the Duke of Bedford on 25th February 1910 to the King, through the Home Secrtetary Winston Churchill, as until this point the Union flag alone could be used.
636     1805 Napoleonic War Period Royal Navy Officer’s Telescope HMS Active.
A scarce example of a oak tube telescope, carved into the timber “Active Phil Clark Rye 1805”. Front lense absent Brass eye piece present. Overall length 36 inches. (£300 - £400)
HMS Active was a 5th Rate of the Line commissioned in 1800. In 1805 she was ordered to the Mediterranean then to the West Indies.

The khaki cotton case bears red printed Royal monogram, Christmas Fund 1914 to the flap. GC clean condition. Within the case a small number of photographs of WW1 period nurses, one in a military ward. Also a Memorial card for Lance Corporal Lewis John Davies, with a photograph of his grave. Overall GC. Three spoons of similar pattern (HM Birmingham 1932, 1935, 1935): the bowl with raised scene of prone riflemen, the stem comprising crossed SMLE rifles topped with laurel wreath on 2nd Battalion scroll, within the wreath a crowned oval strap “Monmouthshire Regiment” with Dragon to centre. A scarce example, of the style of work associated with that done by French prisoners during the Napoleonic war. The lid is decorated with inlaid coloured straw depicting buildings, possibly a military barracks. This scene is continued to the three side panels, the fourth with a parquetry design inlay. This latter style is repeated to the interior, which has two lidded sections. Inlay to the lid, is now with age damage with sections missing. The colours to the interior remain bright and fresh. A scarce example, of the style of work associated with that done by French prisoners during the Napoleonic war. The lid is decorated with a marquetry design depicting 17th Century style figurers including a mounted soldier, flag carrier and a drummer. The interior is decorated with colour straw laid in a parquetry style. The centre lifts to reveal four fitted drawers. The interior of the lid is bear and possibly originally held a padded silk or material padding. Inlay to the lid, is now with some age cracks with small sections missing. 661     The Buffs, East Kent Regiment Bandmaster’s silver mounted presentation baton.
A fine and scarce example, the silver thimble pattern top HM London 1920, is engraved “Mr. G.W. Elvin from Officers 1st Bn. The Buffs 1920”. Black polished tapered shaft terminating in slender silver ferrule. Contained in its original blue ruffled silk lined case with gilt tooled line to the top. One small blemish to thimble top otherwise generally VGC (£75 - £100)
G.W. Elvin was appointed the Bandmaster (WO1) of the 1st Battalion, 1st October 1904.

An attractive rectangular example with oval ends, bearing 1883 Birmingham hallmarks. The front finely engraved with lion in an African setting. The reverse beautifully engraved “Presented to Mr. W.J. Smith, Bandmaster of 3rd Buffs East Kent Regiment by the Herne Bay Band Committee 1890”. (£150 - £200)
3rd Battalion (late East Kent Militia) HQ at Canterbury. The Battalion bore the honour “Mediterranean” for their services during the Crimean War.
663     Leicestershire Regiment platinum diamond set regimental brooch.
A very fine and attractive unmarked example by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company. The Royal Tiger superscribed “Hindoostan” all resting on a scroll inscribed “Leicestershire. The Tiger with ruby eyes and set with rose-cut diamonds. VGC Housed in its original fitted case and accompanied by the original 1947 Goldsmiths & Silversmith Company’s receipt for £52-2-00. (£200 - £300)
The Royal Tiger superscribed “Hindoostan” was awarded to 17th Foot for services in India from 1804 to 1823. The 17th became The Leicestershire Regiment on 1st July 1881; it was granted the title “Royal” in November 1946.

665     Crimea Period Imperial Russian Army Side Drum.
A very good untouched example. The brass body mounted with a large oval plate embossed with the Imperial Russian Eagle. The wooden rims with black and white triangular decoration. These held in place by the original white tension ropes. Complete with original skins. Remains in good untouched condition with age patina. Brass toned to near black. (£800 - £1,200)

674     An Impressive large China Figure of a Georgian Officer of the 10th Hussars
This figure depicts an Officer upon his charger, at the time of the Battle of Waterloo. The Officer wears full dress uniform, with police hanging from his left shoulder and busby to his head. The charger is seen with great detail to the regimental pattern horse harness and Georgian shabraque. The under side of the base bears details of the subject only and date 1815. 675     Beswick China figure of a Mounted Trooper of the Life Guards.
This finely executed ceramic figure displays a Trooper of the Regiment in Review Order. His right hand holds the State Pattern Sword at the Present. Complete with nickel chain and leather reins, tightly held by the left hand. Mounted onto the original polished wooden base with a plaque bearing the details. Height 15 inches. VGC. (£150 - £200)

This impressive limited edition model depicts Her Majesty wearing scarlet Guards tunic, with state waist sash mounted upon her faithful charger Burmese, He stands placid as the Queen takes the salute. Complete with riding crop and wooden base. The latter with details “Trooping the Colour” issued in celebration of Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee 1952-2002. 683     89th Foot (Princes Victoria’s) Mid 19th Century Miniature Portrait
A fine quality oil on ivory miniature portrait of an Officer of the 89th Foot. He is depicted head and shoulders and wears scarlet coatee with bullion Light or Grenadier Company wings. His shoulder plate is clearly seen to his baldric and to his breast, an Army of India and South Africa 1854 pair of medals. The detail is good and colours remain bright. Contained in the lower section of the original leather oval case. GC, but now with hair line crack to the ivory, visible under a glass Height of miniature approx 3 inches (£400 - £450)

684     An Impressive Great War Desk Ornament Ink Stand Ships Gun Turret from the “Helgoland”
This copper model of ship’s gun turret opens to reveal two ink wells and cast into the metal lid “Cast from metal Ex-Surrendered German Battleship “Helgoland” Thos W Ward Ltd Sheffield 1922”. Remains in good condition. Overall Length 8 inches. (£100 - £150)
The Helgoland was a Helgoland Class Battleship she was completed in 1911 and saw action at the Battle of Jutland receiving one hit. She survived the war only to be taken by the British at the end of the War to replace those that had been scuttled at Scappa Flow

A fine hollow silver example bearing Birmingham hallmarks, comprising a miniature military horse bit mounted with regimental device viz. a Crown over a scroll inscribed “Assaye” with the Elephant below resting on a scroll inscribed “XIX PWO Hussars”. VGC (£70 - £100)
